Chlorine Reduction at High Flow with the 20 inch CTO Carbon Cartridge Filter

The 20 inch CTO Carbon Cartridge Filter is a long-bodied treatment cartridge made by compressing activated carbon into a solid block. It adsorbs chlorine, odour, off-taste and organic compounds and, with long contact time on high-flow lines, protects the membrane from the effects of chlorine.

01Problem & Solution

At High Flow the Contact Time Shortens

Problem

Fast Flow, Incomplete Chlorine Reduction

Carbon adsorption depends on contact time. On high-flow lines, water in a short cartridge does not spend enough time in contact with the carbon; chlorine is not fully removed and the membrane is put at risk.

Solution

More Carbon, Longer Contact

With a body twice as long, the 20 inch CTO Carbon Cartridge Filter offers more carbon volume. Water stays inside the block longer, so chlorine and odour reduction stays effective even at high flow.

02Key Features

Dense, High-Capacity, Compatible

The 20 inch CTO Carbon Cartridge Filter is the taste and odour stage for heavily used lines.

Chlorine Reduction

By adsorbing free chlorine from mains water, it improves the taste and smell of the water.

Long Block Body

The 20 inch length gives more carbon volume and a longer service life.

Organic Compound Adsorption

Helps capture the organic compounds that give water colour, taste and odour.

Reduces Carbon Carry-Over

The block structure markedly reduces the dust carry-over seen with granular carbon cartridges.

Protects the Membrane

By removing chlorine, it helps extend the life of the reverse osmosis membrane.

Standard 20 inch Size

Compatible with common 20″ filter housings; it can be used regardless of brand.

04Applications

Where Is It Used?

The 20 inch CTO Carbon Cartridge Filter is used for chlorine reduction on lines with high water use.

  • Building & Villa Inlets
  • Commercial Systems
  • Cafés & Restaurants
  • Hotels & Housing Estates
  • Well & Borehole Water Lines
  • RO System Pre-Treatment
  • Annual Filter Replacement
  • Service & Installation Engineers

05How It Works

How Does the 20 inch CTO Carbon Cartridge Filter Work?

  1. It Comes After the Sediment Stage

Water that has passed the sediment filter reaches the carbon stage free of coarse particles.

  2. It Passes Through the Long Block Body

Water travels slowly from the outer surface of the 20 inch carbon block towards the centre.

  3. Adsorption Takes Place

Chlorine, odour and organic molecules attach to the porous carbon surface and leave the water.

  4. Clean Water Goes Out to the Line

Free of chlorine, the water reaches the membrane or the point of use, and the membrane surface is protected.

  5. Replaced When Saturated

When the carbon surface is saturated, chlorine reduction weakens and a change in taste and smell becomes noticeable.

06Making the Right Choice

20 inch or 10 inch?

When choosing the 20 inch CTO Carbon Cartridge Filter, consider the housing size, the flow rate and the chlorine level.

Housing Size

This cartridge is for standard 20 inch housings; 10 inch and jumbo housings take a different size.

Flow Requirement

As flow rises the contact time shortens, which is why the 20 inch size is preferred on busy lines.

Chlorine Level

On mains supplies with a high chlorine level, a larger carbon volume extends the replacement interval.

Stage Layout

A sediment filter must sit ahead of it, and a softening stage for hardness must be planned separately.

07Maintenance and Use

Replacement Notes

Replaced on time, the 20 inch CTO Carbon Cartridge Filter keeps protecting the membrane.

  • This cartridge is not washable; once the carbon surface is saturated it must be replaced with a new one.
  • When a taste or smell of chlorine becomes noticeable in the water, it is time to replace it.
  • After fitting the new cartridge, run off the first water produced a few times to rinse out carbon dust.
  • An overdue carbon stage starts letting chlorine through, and that can damage the membrane permanently.

08Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

What does the 20 inch CTO Carbon Cartridge Filter do?
It removes chlorine, odour, off-taste and organic compounds from the water by adsorption. Its long body lets it work effectively on high-flow lines and protects the reverse osmosis membrane from the effects of chlorine.
How does it differ from a 10 inch cartridge?
The difference is length. Being twice as long, the 20 inch cartridge contains more carbon; water stays inside the block longer, which means more effective chlorine reduction at high flow and a longer life.
How does it differ from a GAC carbon filter?
GAC consists of a granular carbon fill; CTO is a pressed block. The block structure gives longer contact time and less carbon carry-over, while the granular structure restricts flow less. In most systems the two are used in sequence.
Is it compatible with a jumbo housing?
No. Standard 20 inch and 20 inch jumbo cartridges are different diameters. If you have a jumbo housing, choose a cartridge made for that diameter.
Does it remove limescale and sediment?
No. Carbon works by adsorption; it does not reduce hardness and does not remove dissolved salts. A sediment filter is needed for sand and silt, and a softening stage for hardness.

Products in stock ship free anywhere in Türkiye and arrive within 1–3 business days. Items not in stock are supplied to order — the lead time is confirmed to you when the order is approved.

Installation and commissioning

Installation is a service · plumbing is the customer’s responsibility

The system is delivered ready to install; it only needs to be connected to the inlet and outlet lines. If valve setup is required, we provide free support over a video call. Installation and commissioning fall under our service work and are subject to a service fee. Plumbing labour and any pipes, valves and fittings are not included in the price; these items are the customer’s responsibility.

Warranty

Consumable

This product is classed as a consumable or spare part; because its life depends on use, it is not covered by warranty. Faulty or incorrectly shipped items are replaced — just get in touch with us.

Withdrawal and returns

Distance sales agreement

The right of withdrawal and the return terms are set out in detail in the distance sales agreement. Systems that have been installed and commissioned, and made-to-order products, are outside its scope.

Cancellation and return terms

How can we help?

Two different requests, two different forms.

The two forms ask different things: if we are building a new system we ask about your water and capacity; if your existing system needs service we ask for its brand and a photo.
