Big Blue · Large Diameter & Long Body

Long-Life Pre-Filtration with the 20 inch 5 Micron Big Blue Cartridge Filter

The 20 inch 5 Micron Big Blue Cartridge Filter is a large-diameter, long-bodied polypropylene cartridge that holds back suspended solids such as sand, rust, silt and sediment. It keeps pressure loss limited on high-flow building inlet lines and markedly extends the replacement interval.

01Problem & Solution

Frequent Replacement on Busy Lines Is Wearing

Problem

A Short Cartridge Means Constant Maintenance

Building, estate and well water lines carry a heavy sediment load. Short cartridges fill quickly; frequent replacement costs both labour and consumables, and a clogged filter drops the pressure.

Solution

The Largest Filtration Surface

With its large diameter and long body, the 20 inch 5 Micron Big Blue Cartridge Filter holds far more sediment. The replacement interval lengthens, flow stays easy and the line runs without interruption.

02Key Features

Maximum Capacity, Easy Flow

The 20 inch 5 Micron Big Blue Cartridge Filter is the highest-capacity cartridge option for main-line filtration.

5 Micron Filtration

Holds back sand, rust, silt and turbidity-causing particles larger than 5 micron.

Large Diameter & Long Body

The Big Blue diameter and the 20 inch length together give the highest sediment-holding capacity.

Long Replacement Interval

On the same water it serves far longer than shorter cartridges.

Low Pressure Loss

Filters high-flow main lines without restricting the flow significantly.

Protects the Installation

By holding sediment at the inlet, it protects taps, mixers, boilers and appliances from particles.

Standard Big Blue Compatibility

Compatible with common 20 inch Big Blue filter housings; it can be used regardless of brand.

04Applications

Where Is It Used?

The 20 inch 5 Micron Big Blue Cartridge Filter is used on main lines with a heavy sediment load.

  • Building & Estate Inlets
  • Villas & Detached Houses
  • Well & Borehole Water Lines
  • Hotels & Accommodation
  • Business & Workshop Lines
  • Irrigation & Greenhouse Lines
  • RO System Pre-Filtration
  • Service & Installation Engineers

05How It Works

How Does the 20 inch 5 Micron Big Blue Cartridge Filter Work?

  1. Fitted into the Housing

The cartridge is fitted into the 20 inch Big Blue housing at the inlet of the main line.

  2. Water Passes from Outside In

Water from the main line travels inwards through the cartridge’s wide outer surface.

  3. Particles Are Captured in Stages

Coarse particles are held in the outer layer, fine particles in the progressively denser inner layers.

  4. Clear Water Goes Out to the Line

Freed of sediment, the water reaches the plumbing — and any further treatment stages — noticeably cleaner.

  5. Replaced When Saturated

When the cartridge fills with sediment the flow weakens; at that point it should be replaced with a new one.

06Making the Right Choice

20 inch or 10 inch Big Blue?

When choosing the 20 inch 5 Micron Big Blue Cartridge Filter, consider the housing size, the flow rate and the sediment load.

Housing Size

This cartridge is for 20 inch Big Blue housings; 10 inch housings take a shorter cartridge.

Flow Requirement

On building and estate lines with high water use, the 20 inch size gives easier flow.

Sediment Load

On sediment-laden sources such as well water, a larger cartridge markedly reduces how often it must be replaced.

Installation Space

A 20 inch housing is longer; leave enough clearance beneath it for cartridge changes.

07Maintenance and Use

Replacement Notes

Replaced on time, the 20 inch 5 Micron Big Blue Cartridge Filter protects the whole line.

  • This cartridge is not washable; once saturated it should not be cleaned but replaced with a new one.
  • Weakening flow at the taps and falling pressure are the first signs that the cartridge has filled.
  • Before replacement, close the main valve, release the pressure in the housing and check the large O-ring.
  • After fitting the new cartridge, run the line for a few minutes to rinse it and check for leaks.

08Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

What does the 20 inch 5 Micron Big Blue Cartridge Filter do?
It holds back suspended solids such as sand, rust, silt and sediment. Its large diameter and long body let it work on high-flow main lines, protecting the plumbing and the treatment stages from particles.
How does it differ from a 10 inch Big Blue cartridge?
The diameter is the same, the length differs. Being twice as long, the 20 inch cartridge holds more sediment; on the same water the replacement interval lengthens and pressure loss at high flow stays lower.
Will it fit a standard 20 inch housing?
No. Big Blue cartridges fit Big Blue housings only. If you have a standard slim 20 inch housing, choose a cartridge made for that diameter.
Does it remove chlorine and limescale?
No. This is a mechanical sediment filter; it does not remove dissolved substances. Activated carbon is needed for chlorine, taste and odour; softening for hardness; and a reverse osmosis stage for salts and TDS.
How often should it be replaced?
Replacement frequency depends on how dirty the water is and on the flow rate of the line. Sediment-laden sources such as well water need more frequent replacement; weakening flow is the most reliable indicator.

Installation and commissioning

Installation is a service · plumbing is the customer’s responsibility

The system is delivered ready to install; it only needs to be connected to the inlet and outlet lines. If valve setup is required, we provide free support over a video call. Installation and commissioning fall under our service work and are subject to a service fee. Plumbing labour and any pipes, valves and fittings are not included in the price; these items are the customer’s responsibility.

How can we help?

Two different requests, two different forms.

The two forms ask different things: if we are building a new system we ask about your water and capacity; if your existing system needs service we ask for its brand and a photo.
