How Does the 3-Piece Filter Set Work?
Loading the Housings
The cartridges are placed in the unit’s 10 inch housings in the right order and the housings sealed.
The Sediment Stage
Mains water passes first through the sediment cartridge, where sand, silt, rust and suspended solids are captured.
The Granular Carbon Stage
As the water passes through the granular activated carbon bed, chlorine, off-taste, odour and organic matter are adsorbed.
The Carbon Block Stage
The compressed carbon block captures the remaining chlorine and fine contaminants, protecting the membrane from chlorine damage.
On to the Membrane
Having passed pre-treatment, the water reaches the reverse osmosis membrane clean, and the real treatment is completed there.

What Decides the Right Set
When choosing the 3-Piece Filter Set, unit compatibility and how heavily it is used should be assessed.
Housing Size
The cartridge length must match the unit’s filter housing exactly; a 10 inch cartridge will not fit a 20 inch housing.
Number of Stages
If your unit has three pre-filter housings this set is an exact fit; if it is arranged differently, check the number of stages.
How Heavily It Is Used
Under heavy use the cartridges fill faster and the change interval may shorten.

Notes That Keep It Performing
- The cartridges should generally be changed every 12 months; spent carbon cannot hold chlorine back and the membrane is damaged.
- Fit the cartridges in the right order: the sediment filter first and the carbon block immediately before the membrane.
- Running the first water off for a while after a change is recommended, to flush out any fine dust in the cartridge.
- Check the housing O-rings when changing cartridges; a worn O-ring leads to a leak.

What does the 3-Piece Filter Set do?
It makes up the first three pre-treatment stages of a domestic or office unit. The sediment cartridge captures sand, silt and rust; the granular carbon chlorine, taste and odour; and the carbon block the remaining chlorine and fine contaminants, protecting the membrane.
Does it replace the membrane?
No. This set protects the membrane rather than replacing it. Pre-filters remove sediment, chlorine, taste and odour; only a reverse osmosis membrane can separate out dissolved salts and heavy metals.
When is it changed?
The cartridges are generally changed every 12 months. The interval varies with the contamination load and chlorine level of the incoming water and how heavily the unit is used. A change in taste or a slowing flow also shows it is time.
Why are all three cartridges changed at once?
The three stages work together and fill at roughly the same rate. Changing only one leaves the weak link in place — and a spent carbon filter in particular can let chlorine through and damage the membrane permanently.
Does it remove limescale?
No. A pre-filter set does not remove hardness (limescale) or dissolved salts. Hardness calls for a water softener and dissolved salts for a reverse osmosis membrane.
