How Does the LG 8 inch RO Membrane BW 400 ES Work?
Pre-Treatment and Chlorine Removal
Raw water passes through the sand and carbon stages; sediment and chlorine are removed and the membrane protected.
Pressurised Feed
The high-pressure pump delivers the water to the membrane element inside the 8 inch pressure vessel.
Salt Separation at the Membrane
The nanocomposite membrane lets water through while holding back up to 99.6% of the dissolved salts and ions.
Permeate and Concentrate Outlets
The treated water (permeate) goes to the process, and the high-salinity concentrate is discharged through a separate line.
Cleaning and Replacement
When output falls the membrane is cleaned chemically, and at the end of its life it is replaced.

What does “ES” mean?
ES stands for the Energy Saving series. Because this membrane achieves the same output at a lower feed pressure, pump energy and the electricity bill fall markedly.
Can it be used on seawater?
No. The BW 400 ES is a brackish water membrane. Seawater involves far higher salinity and far higher pressure; those applications call for the seawater (SW) series.
How much water does it produce a day?
Under standard test conditions it produces 10,500 GPD (roughly 39.7 m³/day). Real output varies with feed water salinity, temperature, pressure and recovery rate.
Is it sensitive to chlorine?
Yes. Free chlorine and oxidising agents damage the membrane permanently. Chlorine must therefore be removed by an activated carbon filter ahead of it, and in high hardness precautions should also be taken against scaling.
