Granular Activated Carbon · Chlorine & Odour

Fresher-Tasting Water with the 10 inch GAC Carbon Cartridge Filter

The 10 inch GAC Carbon Cartridge Filter is a treatment cartridge filled with porous granular activated carbon. It adsorbs chlorine, odour, off-taste and organic compounds from the water; its large surface area clarifies the water without restricting flow much, and it protects the membrane from the effects of chlorine.

01Problem & Solution

Chlorinated Water Is Unpleasant to Drink — and Hard on the Membrane

Problem

Sharp Taste, Chemical Damage

Chlorine in mains water gives it a sharp taste and smell. That same chlorine permanently damages the polyamide surface of a reverse osmosis membrane, so it must be removed before it reaches the membrane.

Solution

Granular Carbon with a Large Surface

The 10 inch GAC Carbon Cartridge Filter captures chlorine and organic compounds across the wide pore surface of granular carbon. Taste and odour improve, the membrane is protected, and flow stays easy.

02Key Features

Large Surface, Easy Flow

The 10 inch GAC Carbon Cartridge Filter is the chlorine and odour stage of a treatment system.

Chlorine Reduction

By adsorbing free chlorine from mains water, it improves the taste and smell of the water.

Granular Carbon Fill

The porous granules offer a large adsorption surface, and flow is easier than through carbon block.

Organic Compound Adsorption

Helps capture the organic compounds that give water colour, taste and odour.

Low Pressure Loss

The granular structure restricts flow less than carbon block, helping to maintain the flow rate.

Protects the Membrane

By removing chlorine, it helps extend the life of the reverse osmosis membrane.

Standard 10 inch Size

Compatible with common 10″ filter housings; it can be used regardless of brand.

04Applications

Where Is It Used?

The 10 inch GAC Carbon Cartridge Filter is used in systems that need chlorine and odour reduction.

  • Under-Sink RO Systems
  • Homes & Kitchens
  • Office & Workplace Systems
  • Filtered Water Dispensers
  • Cafés & Restaurants
  • Well & Borehole Water Lines
  • Annual Filter Replacement
  • Service & Installation Engineers

05How It Works

How Does the 10 inch GAC Carbon Cartridge Filter Work?

  1. It Comes After the Sediment Stage

Water that has passed the sediment filter reaches the carbon stage free of coarse particles.

  2. It Enters the Granular Bed

Water begins to pass between the granular activated carbon particles inside the cartridge.

  3. Adsorption Takes Place

Chlorine, odour and organic molecules attach to the porous carbon surface and leave the water.

  4. It Moves to the Next Stage

Free of chlorine, the water reaches the carbon block and membrane stages far more safely.

  5. Replaced When Saturated

When the carbon surface is saturated, chlorine reduction weakens and a change in taste and smell becomes noticeable.

06Making the Right Choice

GAC or CTO?

When choosing the 10 inch GAC Carbon Cartridge Filter, consider the stage layout, the housing size and the water quality.

Construction Choice

The GAC granular structure restricts flow less; CTO carbon block gives longer contact time.

Stage Layout

In most systems GAC comes first and CTO second; the two complement each other.

Housing Size

This cartridge is for standard 10 inch housings; 20 inch and jumbo housings take a different size.

Chlorine Level

On mains supplies with a high chlorine level, the carbon stage should be replaced more often.

07Maintenance and Use

Replacement Notes

Replaced on time, the 10 inch GAC Carbon Cartridge Filter keeps protecting the membrane.

  • This cartridge is not washable; once the carbon surface is saturated it must be replaced with a new one.
  • When a taste or smell of chlorine becomes noticeable in the water, it is time to replace it.
  • On first use the water may run cloudy because of carbon dust; run it off a few times to rinse.
  • An overdue carbon stage starts letting chlorine through, and that can damage the membrane permanently.

08Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

What does the 10 inch GAC Carbon Cartridge Filter do?
It removes chlorine, odour, off-taste and organic compounds from the water by adsorption. The granular carbon structure offers a large surface area and protects the reverse osmosis membrane from the effects of chlorine.
What does GAC stand for?
GAC stands for granular activated carbon. Inside the cartridge the porous carbon granules sit as a loose fill rather than being pressed, and the water is treated as it passes between them.
How does it differ from CTO carbon block?
CTO is a pressed block; GAC is a granular fill. The block structure gives longer contact time, the granular structure restricts flow less. In most treatment systems the two are used together as consecutive stages.
Does it remove limescale and sediment?
No. Carbon works by adsorption; it does not reduce hardness and does not remove dissolved salts. A sediment filter is needed for sand and silt, and a softening stage for hardness.
How often should it be replaced?
Replacement frequency depends on the chlorine level in the mains supply and on daily consumption. Noticing the taste or smell of chlorine is the most reliable indicator.

Installation and commissioning

Installation is a service · plumbing is the customer’s responsibility

The system is delivered ready to install; it only needs to be connected to the inlet and outlet lines. If valve setup is required, we provide free support over a video call. Installation and commissioning fall under our service work and are subject to a service fee. Plumbing labour and any pipes, valves and fittings are not included in the price; these items are the customer’s responsibility.

Warranty

Consumable

This product is classed as a consumable or spare part; because its life depends on use, it is not covered by warranty. Faulty or incorrectly shipped items are replaced — just get in touch with us.

Withdrawal and returns

Distance sales agreement

The right of withdrawal and the return terms are set out in detail in the distance sales agreement. Systems that have been installed and commissioned, and made-to-order products, are outside its scope.

How can we help?

Two different requests, two different forms.

The two forms ask different things: if we are building a new system we ask about your water and capacity; if your existing system needs service we ask for its brand and a photo.
