Seawater RO · 2.5″ × 40″

Drinkable Water from the Sea with the SW 2540 Seawater Membrane

The SW 2540 seawater membrane is a high-pressure reverse osmosis element that overcomes the high salinity of seawater and turns it into drinking and utility water. Under high pressure and without chemicals, it separates the salt, bacteria, viruses and contaminants out of the water.

01Problem & Solution

Seawater Cannot Be Used As It Is

Problem

Extremely High Salinity

At around 35,000 ppm TDS, seawater is extremely saline. It cannot be drunk, it ruins plumbing and appliances, and standard fresh water membranes cannot overcome that osmotic pressure — they stop working in short order.

Solution

High-Pressure Seawater RO

Built to withstand high pressure, the SW 2540 seawater membrane overcomes the osmotic pressure of seawater. Separating out most of the salt, it produces low-salinity, drinkable permeate.

02Key Features

High Salt Rejection, a Compact Element

The SW 2540 seawater membrane is a compact element built for high performance and durability in demanding seawater conditions.

High Salt Rejection

With salt rejection above 99%, it produces low-conductivity permeate even at high salinity.

Thin-Film Composite Construction

A polyamide thin-film composite membrane gives steady, dependable treatment under high pressure.

Compact Size

At 2.5″ × 40″ it is ideal for the tight spaces of ships, yachts, containerised units and pilot plants.

High Pressure Rating

It withstands the high operating pressures needed to overcome seawater’s osmotic pressure.

Chemical-Free Treatment

It works on pressure and membrane technology alone; no chemicals need to be added for treatment.

Standard Vessel Fit

Designed for pressure vessels of nominal 2.5″ internal diameter, it integrates quickly.

04Applications

Where Is It Used?

Thanks to its compact size, the SW 2540 seawater membrane is used in small and mid-scale systems producing fresh water from the sea.

  • Ship & Yacht Systems
  • Offshore Platforms
  • Island & Marina Facilities
  • Containerised Units
  • Resorts & Holiday Complexes
  • Pilot RO Units
  • Coastal Applications
  • Mobile Treatment Systems

05How It Works

How Does the SW 2540 Seawater Membrane Work?

  1. Through Pre-Treatment

To protect the membrane, the seawater first passes through cartridge or multimedia filters and a chlorine removal stage.

  2. High Pressure Applied

The high-pressure pump drives the seawater onto the membrane surface above its osmotic pressure.

  3. Separation at the Semi-Permeable Film

Only water molecules pass through the film; salts, bacteria, viruses and contaminants are held on the other side.

  4. Permeate and Concentrate

The low-salinity water that passes through (the permeate) goes into use, and the salt-concentrated reject is discharged.

  5. Turning It into Drinking Water

Where needed, the low-conductivity permeate is brought to drinking water quality by a remineralisation stage.

06Making the Right Choice

What Decides the Right Membrane

When choosing the SW 2540 seawater membrane, the system’s capacity and the feed water conditions must be assessed correctly.

Water Requirement & Capacity

The daily fresh water requirement determines how many membranes are needed and the size of the system.

Feed Water Salinity

The source water’s TDS and temperature affect the pressure required and the output achieved.

Vessel & Pump Compatibility

How the 2.5″ vessel and the high-pressure pump match the membrane should be planned before installation.

Pre-Treatment Design

For the sake of membrane life, the pre-treatment — filtration and chlorine removal included — should be designed around the raw water quality.

07Maintenance and Use

Notes That Extend Its Life

  • The SW 2540 seawater membrane is sensitive to free chlorine; the chlorine in the feed water must be brought below 0.1 ppm and suitable pre-filtration provided (SDI ≤ 5).
  • If flow falls, differential pressure rises or salt rejection is lost, a chemical clean (CIP) should be carried out to the manufacturer’s procedures.
  • The pressure drop per element and the maximum working pressure limits must not be exceeded, and the operating parameters kept within the manufacturer’s figures.
  • Once first wetted the membrane must always be kept moist, and for long storage the manufacturer’s preservative solution recommendations should be followed.

08Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

What does the SW 2540 seawater membrane do?
It is a high-pressure reverse osmosis element used in seawater treatment units. By separating the salinity, bacteria, viruses and contaminants out of the water, it turns seawater into drinking and utility water — and it does so without adding any chemicals.
How does it differ from a fresh water membrane?
Seawater’s very high salinity creates a high osmotic pressure. Seawater membranes are therefore designed to work at far higher pressures and to give higher salt rejection. Fresh water membranes made for mains or well water are not suitable for these conditions.
What size and capacity is it?
It is a compact 2.5″ × 40″ element. Under standard seawater test conditions the typical permeate flow is around 700 gpd (~2.6 m³/day); real output varies with the feed water and the operating conditions.
Is pre-treatment needed?
Yes. Because the membrane is sensitive to free chlorine and to fouling, suitable filtration and chlorine removal must be applied ahead of it. The right pre-treatment directly affects the membrane’s life and performance.
Which systems is it used in?
It is used in small and mid-scale seawater treatment applications: watermaking systems on ships and yachts, offshore platforms, island and marina facilities, compact containerised units and pilot RO systems.

Products in stock ship free anywhere in Türkiye and arrive within 1–3 business days. Items not in stock are supplied to order — the lead time is confirmed to you when the order is approved.

Installation and commissioning

Installation is a service · plumbing is the customer’s responsibility

The system is delivered ready to install; it only needs to be connected to the inlet and outlet lines. If valve setup is required, we provide free support over a video call. Installation and commissioning fall under our service work and are subject to a service fee. Plumbing labour and any pipes, valves and fittings are not included in the price; these items are the customer’s responsibility.

Warranty

Consumable

This product is classed as a consumable or spare part; because its life depends on use, it is not covered by warranty. Faulty or incorrectly shipped items are replaced — just get in touch with us.

Withdrawal and returns

Distance sales agreement

The right of withdrawal and the return terms are set out in detail in the distance sales agreement. Systems that have been installed and commissioned, and made-to-order products, are outside its scope.

How can we help?

Two different requests, two different forms.

The two forms ask different things: if we are building a new system we ask about your water and capacity; if your existing system needs service we ask for its brand and a photo.
