05How It Works

How Does the Seawater Treatment Membrane Housing Work?

  1. Loading the Membrane

    The SWRO membrane element is loaded into the housing, which is then sealed with the end-cap assembly and O-rings.

  2. High-Pressure Feed

    Seawater from the high-pressure pump is directed into the housing through its feed port.

  3. Separation at the Membrane

    While the housing safely contains the pressure, water passes through the membrane and the great majority of salts and minerals are separated out.

  4. Permeate and Concentrate Outlets

    The treated fresh water (permeate) and the high-salinity concentrate are taken off separately through their respective ports.

  5. Service and Membrane Replacement

    When the membrane reaches the end of its life the end cap is opened and the element replaced; the housing carries on in service with the new membrane.

  • System pressure must be fully released before the end cap is opened; never open a cap that is still under pressure.
  • Because of high-pressure safety, installation and membrane replacement are best carried out by a technical service engineer.

Installation and commissioning fall under our service work and are subject to a service fee. Plumbing labour and any pipes, valves and fittings are not included in the price; these items are the customer’s responsibility.

Warranty

The system is covered by a 2-year manufacturer warranty. During the warranty period, labour and parts are free for faults arising from manufacture or installation. Consumables such as filters, membranes and resin are outside warranty cover — they are replaced when their service life ends; they do not fail.

Withdrawal and returns

Distance sales agreement

The right of withdrawal and the return terms are set out in detail in the distance sales agreement. Systems that have been installed and commissioned, and made-to-order products, are outside its scope.
