Depth Sediment Capture with the 10 inch 5 Micron String Wound Filter

The 10 inch 5 Micron String Wound Filter is a depth-type sediment filter made from polypropylene yarn wound in graded layers around a porous core. It captures sand, rust, silt and limescale particles not only at the surface but throughout the depth of the body, giving strong protection at the first stage of a treatment system.

01Problem & Solution

A Surface-Only Filter Clogs Quickly

Problem

Sediment Builds Up on the Surface

In filters that capture only at the surface, dirt accumulates quickly in the outer layer. The filter clogs before the inner volume of the body is used at all; flow weakens and replacements become more frequent.

Solution

Capture Through the Depth of the Body

With winding that becomes denser from outside in, the 10 inch 5 Micron String Wound Filter captures particles across different layers. Because the whole body is used, dirt is distributed far more evenly.

02Key Features

Wound, Durable, Versatile

The 10 inch 5 Micron String Wound Filter is a dependable pre-filter for both domestic and industrial lines.

5 Micron Filtration

Holds back sand, rust, silt and limescale particles larger than 5 micron.

Graded Winding Structure

Yarn winding that tightens from outside in delivers depth filtration and high dirt-holding capacity.

Supported Core

The polypropylene core helps the cartridge hold its shape under pressure.

Food-Contact Grade

Made from polypropylene suitable for drinking water filtration; it leaves no taste or odour.

Wide Application Range

Widely used for the pre-filtration of process liquids as well as water.

Standard 10 inch Size

Compatible with common 10″ filter housings; it can be used regardless of brand.

04Applications

Where Is It Used?

The 10 inch 5 Micron String Wound Filter is used across a wide range of applications that need pre-filtration.

  • Domestic Treatment Systems
  • Industrial Treatment Systems
  • Greenhouse & Irrigation Lines
  • Food & Beverage Production
  • Chemical & Paint Industry
  • Pre-Pump Filtration
  • Well & Borehole Water Lines
  • Service & Installation Engineers

05How It Works

How Does the 10 inch 5 Micron String Wound Filter Work?

  1. Fitted into the Housing

The cartridge is fitted into the standard 10 inch housing at the first stage of the system.

  2. Water Enters the Wound Layers

Water from the line travels inwards through the loose outer winding on the cartridge’s surface.

  3. Captured in Depth

Coarse particles are held in the outer layers, fine particles in the progressively tighter inner windings.

  4. Clear Water Continues On

Freed of sediment, the water is collected in the core cavity and passed to the next stage.

  5. Replaced When Saturated

When the cartridge fills with sediment the flow weakens; at that point it should be replaced with a new one.

06Making the Right Choice

String Wound or Spun?

When choosing the 10 inch 5 Micron String Wound Filter, consider the housing size, the nature of the contamination and the type of application.

Construction Choice

String wound is strong at depth filtration; spun filters are generally more economical.

Housing Size

This cartridge is for standard 10 inch housings; 20 inch and Big Blue housings take different sizes.

Micron Rating

5 micron is a balanced choice for a first stage; 1 micron filters finer but fills more quickly.

Application Type

String wound cartridges are widely preferred for process liquids and industrial applications.

07Maintenance and Use

Replacement Notes

Replaced on time, the 10 inch 5 Micron String Wound Filter protects the entire system.

  • This cartridge is not washable; sediment penetrates the depth of the winding and cannot be flushed out.
  • Weakening flow and falling pressure are the first signs that replacement is due.
  • Before replacement, shut off the water line, release the pressure inside the housing and check the O-ring.
  • After fitting the new cartridge, run off the first water produced a few times to rinse the system.

08Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

What does the 10 inch 5 Micron String Wound Filter do?
It holds back suspended solids such as sand, rust, silt and limescale particles. Its wound structure performs depth filtration, protecting the first stage of the treatment system.
How does it differ from a spun filter?
The difference is in how they are made. A spun filter is formed from melt-blown fibre in a single piece; a string wound filter is made from polypropylene yarn wound around a core. String wound is strong at depth filtration and is widely preferred in industrial applications.
Does it remove chlorine and limescale?
No. This is a mechanical sediment filter; it physically holds back limescale particles but does not reduce the hardness of the water. Activated carbon is needed for chlorine and odour, and a softening stage for hardness.
Can it be washed and reused?
No. Sediment settles deep within the wound layers and cannot be removed by washing. If reuse is required, choose washable polyester or stainless mesh filters.
Is it compatible with my system?
It is compatible with common systems that use a standard 10 inch filter housing. Before replacing, we recommend checking the length and outer diameter of your current cartridge and the size of your housing.

How can we help?

Two different requests, two different forms.

The two forms ask different things: if we are building a new system we ask about your water and capacity; if your existing system needs service we ask for its brand and a photo.
