01Problem & Solution

High Demand for Treated Water in Industry

Problem

Small Membranes Are Not Enough

In large-scale facilities such as factories, bottling plants and the chemical industry, demand for treated water is very high. Small membranes cannot keep up with that pace, and using many units makes the installation complex and costly.

Solution

One High-Capacity Membrane

With output of up to 1,000 litres per hour, the 8040 Membrane meets large industrial demand with a single powerful element. This reverse osmosis membrane rejects contaminants at 99.5%, delivering high-purity water.

02Key Features

High Capacity, Strong Treatment

The 8040 Membrane is made from high-quality materials to meet the expectations of heavy industrial use.

High Capacity

With output of up to 1,000 litres of treated water per hour it answers large-scale needs powerfully.

Comprehensive Rejection

It rejects bacteria, viruses, heavy metals and organic contaminants from the water at a rate of 99.5%.

Quality Materials

Its composite polyamide structure gives long, efficient service.

Industry Standard

Its standard 8 × 40 inch size suits existing industrial pressure vessels.

High Pressure Rating

A working pressure range of 150–225 PSI gives steady performance in heavy industrial systems.

Vontron Quality

The Vontron ULP22-8040 membrane is a dependable solution for industrial treatment.

04Applications

Where Is It Used?

The 8040 Membrane is designed specifically for large-scale industrial water treatment systems and serves as the main treating element in facilities that need high output.

  • Factories
  • Hospitals
  • Bottling Plants
  • Chemical Industry
  • Beverage Production
  • Industrial RO Systems
  • High-Capacity Facilities
  • Commercial Production

05How It Works

How Does the 8040 Membrane Work?

  1. Pre-Filtered Water Inlet

Water that has passed sediment, carbon and antiscalant dosing is fed to the membrane by a high-pressure pump.

  2. Through the Spiral-Wound Film

As the pressurised water passes through the 8×40 spiral-wound polyamide film, salinity, bacteria, viruses and heavy metals are rejected.

  3. Treated Water Production

The low-TDS permeate that passes the film is collected and sent to the process line or to storage.

  4. Discharging the Concentrate

The rejected, concentrated contamination goes to drain as concentrate, and the membrane stays clean.

  5. Continuous Production

The system runs without interruption, sustaining high-capacity production of up to 1,000 litres per hour.

06Making the Right Choice

What Decides the Right Membrane

The 8040 Membrane delivers its best efficiency when capacity requirement and vessel compatibility are matched correctly.

Capacity Requirement

Your hourly requirement for treated water determines the membrane size; the 8040 is for large scale, up to 1,000 litres per hour.

Vessel Compatibility

For it to fit, the standard 8 × 40 inch size must match your existing FRP pressure vessel.

Pressure and Pump

For the 150–225 PSI working range, the system must have an adequate high-pressure pump.

Feed Water and Pre-Treatment

The TDS and hardness of the feed water affect the need for pre-filtration and antiscalant dosing, and the membrane’s life.

07Maintenance and Replacement

Notes That Extend Its Life

  • With regular pre-filter maintenance and antiscalant dosing, the membrane lasts 2–4 years; without dosing, or on very hard water, that can fall to 1–2 years.
  • CIP (clean-in-place) restores performance and extends membrane life.
  • Keep the working pressure within the 150–225 PSI range and avoid sudden pressure surges.
  • The pressure vessel is normally kept when the membrane is changed; but if the FRP shell is cracked or the O-ring seat is worn, the vessel should be replaced too.

08Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

What is the difference between an 8040 and a 4040 membrane?
The names express dimensions: 8040 = 8 inch diameter × 40 inch length, 4040 = 4 inch × 40 inch. The 8040 treats roughly four times as much water (1,000 litres per hour) and is for large industry. The 4040 suits medium-scale industry.
How many years does an 8040 membrane last?
With regular pre-filter maintenance and antiscalant dosing, 2–4 years. Without antiscalant dosing, or on very hard water, that can fall to 1–2 years. CIP (clean-in-place) extends it; a Water Point maintenance agreement helps extend membrane life.
Does the pressure vessel need changing too?
A pressure vessel normally lasts more than 10 years, and it is usually kept when the membrane is changed. But if the inner surface of the FRP shell is cracked or the O-ring seat is worn, the vessel should be replaced as well.
Where is it used?
In large-scale industrial reverse osmosis systems. Factories, hospitals, bottling plants, the chemical industry and beverage production are its typical applications.
Are chemicals used in the treatment?
The membrane itself works on a physical principle. In high-capacity industrial systems, however, antiscalant dosing in pre-treatment is recommended to protect the membrane against scaling.

Installation and commissioning

Installation is a service · plumbing is the customer’s responsibility

The system is delivered ready to install; it only needs to be connected to the inlet and outlet lines. If valve setup is required, we provide free support over a video call. Installation and commissioning fall under our service work and are subject to a service fee. Plumbing labour and any pipes, valves and fittings are not included in the price; these items are the customer’s responsibility.

Warranty

Consumable

This product is classed as a consumable or spare part; because its life depends on use, it is not covered by warranty. Faulty or incorrectly shipped items are replaced — just get in touch with us.

Withdrawal and returns

Distance sales agreement

The right of withdrawal and the return terms are set out in detail in the distance sales agreement. Systems that have been installed and commissioned, and made-to-order products, are outside its scope.

How can we help?

Two different requests, two different forms.

The two forms ask different things: if we are building a new system we ask about your water and capacity; if your existing system needs service we ask for its brand and a photo.
