01Problem & Solution

The Filter Media Is Blocking

Problem

Manual Washing Is Awkward and Gets Missed

In sand, carbon and multimedia filter tanks the media fills with sediment and dirt over time. Backwashing by hand is awkward and gets skipped, which costs the filter efficiency and causes a pressure drop.

Solution

Programmed Automatic Backwashing

The WS1 TC Clack Filter Valve starts backwashing automatically to its time clock. By directing the water flow along the right paths, it cleans the media and preserves the filter’s efficiency without human intervention.

02Key Features

Automatic, Reliable, Service-Friendly

The WS1 TC Clack Filter Valve gives practical, durable control on filter tanks with proven Clack reliability.

Time Clock Control

The solid-state microprocessor valve manages backwashing automatically to a set time programme.

Flexible Programme Options

The washing frequency can be set anywhere from 1 to 99 days, or as a 7-day weekly calendar.

A Durable Body

The glass-reinforced Noryl body gives reliable operation for many years.

Easy Servicing

Clips and radial seals instead of traditional fittings; quick removal with a plastic wrench.

High Flow Capacity

With a service flow of around 6.1 m³/hour, it suits domestic, commercial and industrial filter tanks.

Broad Compatibility

Compatible with a range of media and resin cleaners; it integrates into different filter applications.

04Applications

Where Is It Used?

The WS1 TC Clack Filter Valve is used on media filter tanks that need automatic backwashing.

  • Activated Carbon Filter Tanks
  • Sand Filter Tanks
  • Multimedia Filters
  • Building & Apartment Inlets
  • Hotels & Businesses
  • Industrial Filtration
  • RO Pre-Treatment Lines
  • Valve Replacement / Renewal

05How It Works

How Does the WS1 TC Clack Filter Valve Work?

  1. Filtering in the Service Position

In normal operation the water passes through the valve and is filtered by the media in the tank (sand, carbon and so on).

  2. Triggered by the Time Clock

When the set day count or weekly programme is reached, the valve starts the backwash cycle automatically.

  3. Backwash

The valve directs the water flow in the reverse direction, sending the sediment collected in the media to drain and cleaning the bed.

  4. Rinse

After the wash, the valve carries out a rinse step that settles the media back into place.

  5. Return to Service

When the cycle is complete the valve returns automatically to the service position and filtration continues where it left off.

06Making the Right Choice

What Decides the Right Valve

When choosing the WS1 TC Clack Filter Valve, the tank size and flow requirement must be assessed correctly.

Tank Size & Media

The tank diameter and media type determine the backwash flow required and the flow controller (DLFC) chosen.

Service Flow

The instantaneous water flow of the system must match the flow capacity of the valve.

Control Type

Time clock (TC) control is ideal for regular, predictable use.

Connection Compatibility

The 1″ inlet/outlet and 2½″ tank connection must suit the existing tank and pipework.

07Maintenance and Use

Notes That Keep It Performing

  • The backwash frequency should be set according to the dirt load of the water and the intensity of use; the programme should be updated when needed.
  • At periodic servicing the internal parts such as the piston, seals and spacer should be checked; the WS1 service wrench should be used to remove them.
  • The valve programme should be checked from time to time so that the settings survive power cuts.
  • The WS1 TC Clack Filter Valve only manages the backwash; the actual treatment is done by the media in the tank, so the life of the media should be followed as well.

08Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

What does the WS1 TC Clack Filter Valve do?
It is a control valve that manages backwashing automatically on filter tanks such as sand, carbon and multimedia. By cleaning the media at set intervals to a Time Clock programme, it preserves the efficiency of the filter.
What does TC (Time Clock) mean?
Time Clock means the valve backwashes on a time basis. The washing frequency can be set as an interval between 1 and 99 days, or on a 7-day calendar as particular days of the week.
Is it the valve that treats the water?
No. The valve only manages backwashing and directs the flow; the actual treatment is done by the media in the tank. The valve keeps that media clean and efficient.
What are the connection and flow figures?
The inlet/outlet connection is 1″ and the tank connection 2½″. Service flow is around 6.1 m³/hour (28 gpm) and backwash flow around 3.4 m³/hour (15 gpm); the figures may vary with the flow controller and the system configuration.
Is it easy to service?
Yes. The Clack WS1 design uses clips and radial seals instead of traditional fittings. The internal parts can be removed quickly with the WS1 service wrench, with no need for a screwdriver or pliers.

How can we help?

Two different requests, two different forms.

The two forms ask different things: if we are building a new system we ask about your water and capacity; if your existing system needs service we ask for its brand and a photo.
