01Problem & Solution

Quality Gets Harder at High Salinity

Problem

The Low-Conductivity Target Is Missed

In medium to high salinity brackish water, standard membranes may not reach the target conductivity. That creates a quality risk in sensitive process and drinking water applications.

Solution

Premium High Salt Rejection

With up to 99.8% salt rejection, the Toray TM720D-400 Reverse Osmosis Membrane produces stable, high-quality permeate at low conductivity even on the most difficult brackish waters.

02Key Features

High Rejection, Long Life, Stability

The Toray TM720D-400 Reverse Osmosis Membrane is a premium solution for industrial systems that aim for the highest water quality.

99.8% Salt Rejection

The high-rejection structure separates dissolved salts and contaminants at the highest rate, giving low conductivity.

34 mil Feed Spacer

The optimised spacer design reduces the tendency to foul and extends the interval between chemical cleanings.

Aromatic Polyamide TFC

The cross-linked fully aromatic polyamide thin-film composite structure offers high removal and a long life.

400 ft² High Capacity

Roughly 37 m² of effective area and around 11,000 gpd of permeate give high-capacity output.

ISO 9001 Quality

A membrane element with proven performance, manufactured under ISO 9001 quality assurance.

Retrofit Compatibility

Compatible with most standard 8040 vessels; it can be used as a retrofit in existing RO systems.

04Applications

Where Is It Used?

The Toray TM720D-400 Reverse Osmosis Membrane is used in industrial RO systems that need high water quality and low conductivity.

  • Industrial RO Systems
  • Municipal Drinking Water Plants
  • Industrial Process Water
  • Water Recovery
  • Water Reuse Projects
  • Food & Pharmaceutical Production
  • Lines Requiring High Rejection
  • Premium Membrane Replacement

05How It Works

How Does the Toray TM720D-400 Reverse Osmosis Membrane Work?

  1. It Is Loaded into the Vessel

The membrane is placed inside an 8 inch vessel and connected to the high-pressure line of the RO system.

  2. Water Is Fed Under Pressure

Pre-treated brackish water is delivered to the membrane surface by the high-pressure pump.

  3. Filtered at High Rejection

The polyamide film passes only water molecules; it holds back up to 99.8% of the dissolved salts.

  4. Permeate and Concentrate Separate

Low-conductivity permeate is collected, while the salt-rich concentrate flows to drain over the 34 mil spacer.

  5. Consistent High Quality

High-purity water is delivered to the system outlet and to use in a steady, consistent flow.

06Making the Right Choice

What Decides the Right Membrane

When choosing the Toray TM720D-400 Reverse Osmosis Membrane, the water quality target and the feed water must be assessed correctly.

Quality Target

Where the lowest conductivity and the highest rejection are required, the premium Toray membrane stands out.

Feed Water Salinity

Suitable for medium-salinity brackish water (2,000–10,000 ppm); seawater calls for an SWRO membrane.

Size & Vessel Fit

The 8040 size fits standard 8 inch vessels; on a retrofit the existing system vessel should be confirmed.

Running Costs

With correct pre-treatment and a CIP strategy, you get low running costs and high water quality over the long term.

07Maintenance and Use

Notes That Extend Its Life

  • Free chlorine and oxidants damage the membrane irreversibly, especially in the presence of heavy metal catalysts; chlorine must be removed before commissioning.
  • Where pressure drop rises, permeate falls or rejection is lost, cleaning should be carried out with the alkaline/acid CIP chemicals recommended by the manufacturer and within their pH and temperature limits.
  • Although the 34 mil spacer delays fouling, the pre-treatment (sediment, hardness and chlorine removal) must still work properly.
  • The membrane must not be left dry; during long shutdowns it should be stored in the preservative solution the manufacturer recommends.

08Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

What does the Toray TM720D-400 Reverse Osmosis Membrane do?
It is a premium membrane element that treats brackish water at molecular level in reverse osmosis systems. With up to 99.8% salt rejection it produces high-quality, consistent permeate at low conductivity.
How does it differ from the TechFlow LP-400?
Both are 400 ft² membranes in the 8040 size. The Toray TM720D-400 stands out with higher salt rejection (99.8%), a premium aromatic polyamide structure and a 34 mil spacer; it is preferred for applications aiming at the highest water quality.
Can it be used on seawater?
No. It is designed for medium-salinity brackish water (roughly 2,000–10,000 ppm). Seawater requires high-pressure seawater (SWRO) membranes.
Will it fit my existing system?
It is compatible with most standard 8040 vessels and can be used as a retrofit. Even so, the suitability of the system vessel and design should be confirmed before installation.
What shortens its life?
The biggest risk is chlorine and oxidants; if they are not removed the membrane is permanently damaged. Inadequate pre-treatment and CIP cleaning that is not done on time also reduce performance and life.

Installation and commissioning

Installation is a service · plumbing is the customer’s responsibility

The system is delivered ready to install; it only needs to be connected to the inlet and outlet lines. If valve setup is required, we provide free support over a video call. Installation and commissioning fall under our service work and are subject to a service fee. Plumbing labour and any pipes, valves and fittings are not included in the price; these items are the customer’s responsibility.

Warranty

2 years · manufacturer

The system is covered by a 2-year manufacturer warranty. During the warranty period, labour and parts are free for faults arising from manufacture or installation. Consumables such as filters, membranes and resin are outside warranty cover — they are replaced when their service life ends; they do not fail.

Withdrawal and returns

Distance sales agreement

The right of withdrawal and the return terms are set out in detail in the distance sales agreement. Systems that have been installed and commissioned, and made-to-order products, are outside its scope.

Cancellation and return terms

How can we help?

Two different requests, two different forms.

The two forms ask different things: if we are building a new system we ask about your water and capacity; if your existing system needs service we ask for its brand and a photo.
