Whole-House Depth Filtration with the Jumbo 10 inch 5 Micron String Filter

The Jumbo 10 inch 5 Micron String Filter is a wide-diameter depth sediment filter made from polypropylene yarn wound in graded layers over a porous core. It captures sand, rust, silt and scale particles through the depth of its body while keeping pressure loss modest on high-flow lines such as a building inlet.

01Problem & Solution

A Slim Cartridge Is Not Enough on the Main Line

Problem

Pressure Drops and the Filter Fills Early

At a building or villa inlet, all the water for the property passes through a single point. Narrow cartridges cannot keep up with that flow; pressure drops, the cartridge fills within a short time and the taps start running weakly.

Solution

Wide Diameter, Deep Winding

The Jumbo 10 inch 5 Micron String Filter combines a jumbo diameter with graded winding. Particles are captured across different layers, the flow stays easy and the change interval lengthens.

02Key Features

Wide Diameter, High Capacity

The Jumbo 10 inch 5 Micron String Filter is the first stage of whole-house filtration.

5 Micron Filtration

Holds back sand, rust, silt and limescale particles larger than 5 micron.

Wide Jumbo Body

The large diameter provides far greater sediment-holding capacity than standard cartridges.

Graded Winding Structure

Yarn winding that tightens from outside in delivers depth filtration and high dirt-holding capacity.

Low Pressure Loss

Filters high-flow building inlet lines without restricting the flow significantly.

Protects the Installation

By holding sediment at the inlet, it protects taps, mixers, boilers and appliances from particles.

Fits Jumbo Housings

Compatible with common 10 inch jumbo filter housings and usable regardless of brand.

04Applications

Where Is It Used?

The Jumbo 10 inch 5 Micron String Filter is used on high-flow main lines.

  • Building & Apartment Inlets
  • Villas & Detached Houses
  • Flat Main Lines
  • Well & Borehole Water Lines
  • Hotels & Housing Estates
  • Business & Workshop Lines
  • Irrigation & Garden Lines
  • Service & Installation Engineers

05How It Works

How Does the Jumbo 10 inch 5 Micron String Filter Work?

  1. Fitted into the Housing

The cartridge is fitted into the 10 inch jumbo filter housing at the head of the main line.

  2. Water Enters the Wound Layers

Water from the main line moves inwards through the loosely wound outer layer on the cartridge’s wide surface.

  3. Captured in Depth

Coarse particles are held in the outer layers, fine particles in the progressively tighter inner windings.

  4. Clear Water Reaches the House

Freed of sediment, the water reaches the plumbing — and any further treatment stages — noticeably cleaner.

  5. Replaced When Saturated

When the cartridge fills with sediment the flow weakens; at that point it should be replaced with a new one.

06Making the Right Choice

Jumbo or Standard Cartridge?

When choosing the Jumbo 10 inch 5 Micron String Filter, housing type, flow rate and water quality should be assessed.

Housing Type

This cartridge fits jumbo housings only and cannot be used in standard slim housings.

Flow Requirement

The jumbo size is the one to choose at high-flow points such as a whole house or a building inlet.

Construction Choice

String wound is strong at depth filtration; spun filters are generally more economical.

Stage Layout

A carbon stage for chlorine and odour and a softening stage for hardness must be planned separately.

07Maintenance and Use

Replacement Notes

Changed on time, the Jumbo 10 inch 5 Micron String Filter protects the whole line.

  • This cartridge is not washable; sediment penetrates the depth of the winding and cannot be flushed out.
  • Weakening flow at the taps is the first sign that the cartridge has filled.
  • Before replacement, close the main valve, release the pressure in the housing and check the large O-ring.
  • After fitting the new cartridge, run the line for a few minutes to rinse it and check for leaks.

08Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

What does the Jumbo 10 inch 5 Micron String Filter do?
It captures suspended solids in the water such as sand, rust, silt and scale particles. Its wide diameter and wound construction give depth filtration on high-flow lines such as a building inlet.
Are jumbo and Big Blue the same thing?
Yes — the trade uses both names for the same wide-diameter cartridge size. What matters is that your housing is the wide type; this cartridge cannot be used in a standard slim housing.
How does it differ from a standard 10 inch cartridge?
The difference is diameter. A jumbo cartridge has a much wider body, which means higher flow, greater sediment-holding capacity and a longer change interval.
Does it remove chlorine and limescale?
No. This is a mechanical sediment filter; it physically holds back limescale particles but does not reduce the hardness of the water. Activated carbon is needed for chlorine and odour, and a softening stage for hardness.
How often should it be replaced?
Replacement frequency depends on how dirty the water is and on the flow rate of the line. Sediment-laden sources such as well water need more frequent replacement; weakening flow is the most reliable indicator.

Installation and commissioning

Installation is a service · plumbing is the customer’s responsibility

The system is delivered ready to install; it only needs to be connected to the inlet and outlet lines. If valve setup is required, we provide free support over a video call. Installation and commissioning fall under our service work and are subject to a service fee. Plumbing labour and any pipes, valves and fittings are not included in the price; these items are the customer’s responsibility.

Warranty

Consumable

This product is classed as a consumable or spare part; because its life depends on use, it is not covered by warranty. Faulty or incorrectly shipped items are replaced — just get in touch with us.

Withdrawal and returns

Distance sales agreement

The right of withdrawal and the return terms are set out in detail in the distance sales agreement. Systems that have been installed and commissioned, and made-to-order products, are outside its scope.

Cancellation and return terms

How can we help?

Two different requests, two different forms.

The two forms ask different things: if we are building a new system we ask about your water and capacity; if your existing system needs service we ask for its brand and a photo.
