High-Flow Treatment with the FilmTec 8″ Membrane

The FilmTec 8″ Membrane is an 8040 reverse osmosis element for high-capacity mains and brackish water systems. Its large active area and thin-film composite structure support high salt rejection, high permeate flow and low energy consumption together in industrial plants.

01Problem & Solution

Balancing Energy and Quality at High Flow

Problem

As Capacity Rises, So Does Cost

Using a large number of small elements in a high-flow plant complicates the pipework, wastes floor space and raises the energy bill. Membranes that lose performance put continuity of production at risk.

Solution

A Large Active Area, Fewer Elements

The FilmTec 8″ Membrane offers a larger active area in a single element, delivering the same output from fewer modules. The rack design is simpler and energy consumption and operating load stay under control.

02Key Features

High Capacity, Low Energy

The FilmTec 8″ Membrane is designed to produce consistent water quality at industrial scale.

Large Active Area

The 8040 size gives high permeate flow from a single element, reducing the number of modules.

High Salt Rejection

Separating out up to 99% of dissolved salts and ions gives consistent outlet quality.

Fouling Resistance

The rugged models in the series aim for longer run times on demanding feed water.

Energy Efficiency

Low-pressure models support reaching the target output at a lower operating pressure.

Connects in Series

Working in series in multi-element pressure vessels raises the system’s recovery rate.

An Industry-Standard Size

The 8040 size fits common pressure vessels, which makes upgrades and replacements straightforward.

04Applications

Where Is It Used?

The FilmTec 8″ Membrane is the main treatment element in high-capacity treatment plants.

  • Industrial RO Plants
  • Drinking Water Production Lines
  • Pure Water & Demineralisation
  • Power & Boiler Feed
  • Food & Beverage Industry
  • Water Recovery Lines
  • Central Systems for Hotels & Complexes
  • Membrane Replacement & Refurbishment

05How It Works

How Does the FilmTec 8″ Membrane Work?

  1. The Pre-Treatment Line

Sand, carbon, softening and antiscalant dosing prepare the feed water for the membrane.

  2. Into the Pressure Vessel

Water from the high-pressure pump is fed into the pressure vessel holding the elements.

  3. Spiral-Wound Separation

As the water travels along the spiral-wound layers, dissolved matter is held back by the membrane.

  4. Series Flow & Recovery

The elements work in series, with permeate drawn off at each stage to raise recovery.

  5. The Product Water Is Drawn Off

The treated water goes to the process through the product line and the concentrate is discharged through a separate line.

06Making the Right Choice

8″ or 4″?

When choosing the FilmTec 8″ Membrane, target flow, water analysis and the existing rack arrangement should be assessed together.

Target Flow

An 8″ element is economical at high daily output; 4″ is enough for lower-flow systems.

Feed Water Character

TDS, hardness and contaminant load determine whether the standard, low-energy or fouling-resistant series is right.

Pressure Vessel Arrangement

The vessel’s element count, pressure rating and port design must suit the membrane chosen.

Running Costs

Energy consumption, cleaning frequency and membrane life directly affect total cost.

07Maintenance and Use

Notes That Extend Its Life

Operated correctly, the FilmTec 8″ Membrane gives steady performance for years.

  • Chlorine must be removed in pre-treatment; a polyamide membrane is permanently damaged by contact with it.
  • The recovery rate should be held at its design value; excessive recovery accelerates scaling.
  • Normalised flow, salt passage and differential pressure should be recorded regularly.
  • When performance drops a CIP should be carried out at the right pH and temperature, and the elements never left to dry out.

08Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

What does the FilmTec 8″ Membrane do?
It works as the main treatment element in high-capacity reverse osmosis systems. By separating out dissolved salts, heavy metals and organic contaminants from mains and brackish water at a high rate, it produces quality water at industrial scale.
How does it differ from the 4″ membrane?
The difference is diameter and active area. An 8″ element produces far more permeate on its own, so a large plant reaches the same capacity with fewer modules. The 4″ suits mid-scale systems.
Is the brand Filmtec or Filmtech?
The correct spelling is FilmTec, and the brand is made within DuPont as FilmTec™. Filmtech is a common misspelling referring to the same product family.
How many elements should be used?
The element count is calculated from the target flow and recovery rate. Pressure vessels are usually chosen to carry several elements in series; the right number is determined project by project.
Is the pressure vessel included?
No. The membrane element and the pressure vessel are supplied separately. The vessel’s diameter, element count and pressure rating should be chosen to suit the system design.

Products in stock ship free anywhere in Türkiye and arrive within 1–3 business days. Items not in stock are supplied to order — the lead time is confirmed to you when the order is approved.

Installation and commissioning

Installation is a service · plumbing is the customer’s responsibility

The system is delivered ready to install; it only needs to be connected to the inlet and outlet lines. If valve setup is required, we provide free support over a video call. Installation and commissioning fall under our service work and are subject to a service fee. Plumbing labour and any pipes, valves and fittings are not included in the price; these items are the customer’s responsibility.

Warranty

Consumable

This product is classed as a consumable or spare part; because its life depends on use, it is not covered by warranty. Faulty or incorrectly shipped items are replaced — just get in touch with us.

Withdrawal and returns

Distance sales agreement

The right of withdrawal and the return terms are set out in detail in the distance sales agreement. Systems that have been installed and commissioned, and made-to-order products, are outside its scope.

Cancellation and return terms

How can we help?

Two different requests, two different forms.

The two forms ask different things: if we are building a new system we ask about your water and capacity; if your existing system needs service we ask for its brand and a photo.
