Clack Volumetric Water Softener Valve

The Clack Volumetric Water Softener Valve is the brain of a single-tank softening system; it manages regeneration by actual water consumption rather than by the calendar. With its reliable US-made construction and digital control, it washes automatically at a tonnage set from the water’s hardness reading and the resin quantity, saving both salt and water.

01Problem & Solution

An Inefficient Valve Costs More

Problem

Wasted Washes on a Calendar

Timer valves regenerate on set days whether or not any water has been used, consuming salt and water for nothing; poor-quality valves also develop faults and leaks over time.

Solution

Smart Washing by Consumption

The Clack Volumetric Water Softener Valve meters the water passing through and starts a brine wash only when the set volume is reached. Its durable US-made construction delivers salt and water savings along with long-lasting performance.

02Key Features

Premium, Smart, Durable

The Clack Volumetric Water Softener Valve is a premium control valve built to maximise efficiency and reliability.

Volumetric Regeneration

Switches automatically to a brine wash once the set water volume is reached, saving both salt and water.

Digital Microprocessor

An accessible front panel and LCD clearly show the time, the volume remaining and the flow rate.

Flexible Regeneration Modes

Offers meter-immediate, meter-delayed, time-delayed or differential-pressure initiation.

Totaliser Tracking

Tracks the total volume used so you can follow how the system is performing.

Durable ABS Body

A chemical-resistant ABS body gives long-lasting, dependable operation.

Wide Tank Compatibility

Backwash capability on tanks up to 21 inches in diameter suits both residential and commercial systems.

05How It Works

How Does the Clack Volumetric Water Softener Valve Work?

  1. Softening (Service)

The valve passes water through the resin tank; the resin holds back calcium and magnesium, softening the water.

  2. Volume Metering

The built-in meter continuously measures the volume passing through and tracks the wash tonnage set from hardness and resin quantity.

  3. The Regeneration Decision

Once the set tonnage is reached the valve starts regeneration according to the mode chosen, immediate or delayed.

  4. Backwash and Brine

The valve runs the backwash, brine draw and rinse stages automatically to renew the resin.

  5. Return to Service

When regeneration is complete the valve returns automatically to the softening position and the cycle begins again.

06Making the Right Choice

What Decides the Right Valve

When choosing the Clack Volumetric Water Softener Valve, flow rate, hardness and tank compatibility need to be assessed correctly.

Flow Requirement

Peak flow must suit the ~6.1 m³/hour capacity; higher flows call for the WS1.25 or WS1.5.

Water Hardness

The hardness of the water and the amount of resin determine the wash tonnage and how often regeneration occurs.

Tank Compatibility

The valve suits tanks up to 21 inches in diameter; the size of the existing resin tank should be checked.

Single or Twin Requirement

This valve is for a single tank; where uninterrupted soft water is required, the twin (duplex) model should be considered.

07Maintenance and Use

Notes That Keep It Performing

  • There must always be enough salt in the brine tank; when the salt runs out the resin cannot be renewed and the water turns hard again.
  • Hardness and tonnage settings must be made correctly from a water analysis; incorrect settings lead either to wasted salt or to hard water.
  • The piston, seal and O-ring assembly should be inspected periodically; using genuine Clack spare parts is recommended.
  • The first installation and programming are best carried out by a technical service engineer; correct settings depend on it.

08Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

What does the Clack Volumetric Water Softener Valve do?
It is the digital, flow-controlled valve that manages regeneration in a single-tank water softener. It meters the water passing through and, once the set volume is reached, automatically runs a brine wash to renew the resin.
What does volumetric (flow-controlled) mean?
It means regeneration happens on actual water consumption rather than on a calendar. The valve washes once the set tonnage is reached, so there are no unnecessary washes and both salt and water are saved.
How is the wash tonnage determined?
A tonnage setting is derived from the hardness reading of the water to be treated and the amount of resin in the unit. That way the valve regenerates at the right moment, before the resin capacity is exhausted.
Single or twin?
This valve is for single-tank systems. If soft water must continue uninterrupted during regeneration as well, the twin-tank (duplex) valve model should be considered.
What is the connection size and flow rate?
The inlet/outlet connection is 1″, the maximum flow rate roughly 6.1 m³/hour, and it suits tanks up to 21 inches in diameter. It comes with a digital display, a totaliser and several regeneration initiation options.

Installation and commissioning

Installation is a service · plumbing is the customer’s responsibility

The system is delivered ready to install; it only needs to be connected to the inlet and outlet lines. If valve setup is required, we provide free support over a video call. Installation and commissioning fall under our service work and are subject to a service fee. Plumbing labour and any pipes, valves and fittings are not included in the price; these items are the customer’s responsibility.

Warranty

Consumable

This product is classed as a consumable or spare part; because its life depends on use, it is not covered by warranty. Faulty or incorrectly shipped items are replaced — just get in touch with us.

Withdrawal and returns

How can we help?

Two different requests, two different forms.

The two forms ask different things: if we are building a new system we ask about your water and capacity; if your existing system needs service we ask for its brand and a photo.
