Sediment Filter · Long Body

Pre-Filtration at High Flow with the 20 inch 5 Micron Spun Filter

The 20 inch 5 Micron Spun Filter is a long-bodied polypropylene cartridge that holds back suspended solids such as sand, rust, silt and sediment. Its large filtration surface keeps pressure loss limited on high-flow lines and protects the stages behind it from premature wear.

01Problem & Solution

At High Flow the Filter Fills Quickly

Problem

A Short Cartridge Cannot Keep Up

On lines with high water use, small cartridges fill quickly. Frequent replacement raises costs, a clogged filter causes pressure loss, and the sediment load starts passing to the stages behind it.

Solution

A Larger Filtration Surface

With its long body the 20 inch 5 Micron Spun Filter offers greater sediment-holding capacity. On the same water it serves longer and keeps pressure loss limited at high flow.

02Key Features

Long Life, High Flow

The 20 inch 5 Micron Spun Filter is a pre-filter designed for heavily used lines.

5 Micron Filtration

Holds back sand, rust, silt and turbidity-causing particles larger than 5 micron.

Large Filter Surface

The long body gives greater sediment-holding capacity and a longer service life.

Polypropylene Construction

Food-contact grade polypropylene fibre filters without leaving any taste or odour in the water.

Low Pressure Loss

Filters high-flow lines without restricting the flow significantly.

Standard 20 inch Size

Compatible with common 20″ filter housings; it can be used regardless of brand.

Protects the System

By holding coarse dirt at the front, it extends the life of the carbon stages and the membrane.

04Applications

Where Is It Used?

The 20 inch 5 Micron Spun Filter is used for pre-filtration on lines with high water use.

  • Building & Villa Inlets
  • Commercial Systems
  • Cafés & Restaurants
  • Hotels & Housing Estates
  • Well & Borehole Water Lines
  • Industrial Pre-Filtration
  • Irrigation & Greenhouse Lines
  • Service & Installation Engineers

05How It Works

How Does the 20 inch 5 Micron Spun Filter Work?

  1. Fitted into the Housing

The cartridge is fitted into the standard 20 inch housing at the first stage of the line.

  2. Water Passes from Outside In

Water from the line travels inwards from the cartridge’s outer surface through the fibre layers.

  3. Particles Are Captured in Stages

Coarse particles are held in the outer layer, fine particles in the progressively denser inner layers.

  4. Clear Water Continues On

Freed of sediment, the water reaches the carbon stages and the rest of the treatment system far cleaner.

  5. Replaced When Saturated

When the cartridge fills with sediment the flow weakens; at that point it should be replaced with a new one.

06Making the Right Choice

20 inch or 10 inch?

When choosing the 20 inch 5 Micron Spun Filter, consider the housing size, the flow requirement and the water quality.

Housing Size

This cartridge is for standard 20 inch housings; 10 inch and Big Blue housings take different sizes.

Flow Requirement

On lines with high consumption, the 20 inch size gives longer life and less pressure loss.

Micron Rating

5 micron is a balanced choice for a first stage; 1 micron filters finer but fills more quickly.

Water Quality

If the sand and sediment load is very high, adding a washable filter ahead of it reduces consumable costs.

07Maintenance and Use

Replacement Notes

Replaced on time, the 20 inch 5 Micron Spun Filter protects the whole line.

  • This cartridge is not washable; once saturated it should not be cleaned but replaced with a new one.
  • Weakening flow and falling pressure are the first signs that replacement is due.
  • Before replacement, shut off the water line, release the pressure inside the housing and check the O-ring.
  • After fitting the new cartridge, run off the first water produced a few times to rinse the line.

08Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

What does the 20 inch 5 Micron Spun Filter do?
It holds back suspended solids such as sand, rust, silt and sediment. Its long body provides pre-filtration on high-flow lines and extends the life of the carbon stages and the membrane behind it.
How does it differ from a 10 inch cartridge?
The difference is length. Being twice as long, the 20 inch cartridge offers a larger filtration surface; on the same water it lasts longer and pressure loss at high flow stays lower.
Is it compatible with a Big Blue housing?
No. Standard 20 inch and 20 inch Big Blue cartridges are different diameters. If you have a Big Blue housing, choose a cartridge made for that diameter.
Does it remove chlorine and limescale?
No. This is a mechanical sediment filter; it does not remove dissolved substances. Activated carbon is needed for chlorine, taste and odour; softening for hardness; and a reverse osmosis stage for salts and TDS.
How often should it be replaced?
Replacement frequency depends on how dirty the water is and on daily consumption. Water with a high sediment load needs more frequent replacement, clean mains water less often; weakening flow is the most reliable indicator.

Installation and commissioning

Installation is a service · plumbing is the customer’s responsibility

The system is delivered ready to install; it only needs to be connected to the inlet and outlet lines. If valve setup is required, we provide free support over a video call. Installation and commissioning fall under our service work and are subject to a service fee. Plumbing labour and any pipes, valves and fittings are not included in the price; these items are the customer’s responsibility.

Warranty

Consumable

This product is classed as a consumable or spare part; because its life depends on use, it is not covered by warranty. Faulty or incorrectly shipped items are replaced — just get in touch with us.

Withdrawal and returns

Distance sales agreement

The right of withdrawal and the return terms are set out in detail in the distance sales agreement. Systems that have been installed and commissioned, and made-to-order products, are outside its scope.

How can we help?

Two different requests, two different forms.

The two forms ask different things: if we are building a new system we ask about your water and capacity; if your existing system needs service we ask for its brand and a photo.
