How Does Twin-Tank Softening Work?

  1. Tank One in Service

    Incoming hard water passes through the cationic resin bed in the active tank, is softened and goes out to the plumbing.

  2. Ion Exchange

    The resin captures the calcium and magnesium ions that cause hardness and releases sodium ions in their place.

  3. Automatic Changeover

    When the active tank saturates, the flow-controlled valve switches automatically to the second, and the flow is never broken.

  4. Regeneration with Salt

    The saturated tank is washed with brine prepared in the salt tank, renewing the resin and sending the waste to drain.

  5. An Uninterrupted Cycle

    The regenerated tank waits ready while the other carries on, and the system produces soft water 24/7 without a break.

What does Twin-Tank Softening do?

How does it differ from a single-tank system?
A single-tank unit stops softening while the resin regenerates, and hard water passes through in the meantime. In a twin system the second tank takes over, so the flow is never broken. That is why twin systems are chosen for sites running 24/7.
What is its daily capacity?
Under mains water conditions it treats roughly 15 tonnes of limescale a day. The real capacity varies with the hardness of the water and how heavily it is used, and other capacities are set project by project.
How does it regenerate, and does it need salt?
When the resin fills with hardness ions, the flow-controlled valve washes the tank with brine prepared in the salt tank and renews the resin. The system therefore needs a regular supply of salt, and checking the brine tank is the basic maintenance task.

The system is delivered ready to install; it only needs to be connected to the inlet and outlet lines. If valve setup is required, we provide free support over a video call. Installation and commissioning fall under our service work and are subject to a service fee. Plumbing labour and any pipes, valves and fittings are not included in the price; these items are the customer’s responsibility.

Warranty

The system is covered by a 2-year manufacturer warranty. During the warranty period, labour and parts are free for faults arising from manufacture or installation. Consumables such as filters, membranes and resin are outside warranty cover — they are replaced when their service life ends; they do not fail.

Withdrawal and returns

Distance sales agreement

The right of withdrawal and the return terms are set out in detail in the distance sales agreement. Systems that have been installed and commissioned, and made-to-order products, are outside its scope.
