A Protected Membrane and Steady Production with the Factory Water Treatment System

The Factory Water Treatment System is a two-stage industrial installation in which an activated carbon unit with automatic backwash and a reverse osmosis unit with a daily capacity of 10 tonnes run in series. The carbon stage protects the membrane by holding back chlorine and sediment, while reverse osmosis separates up to 99% of dissolved salts and contaminants, producing 500 litres of water an hour.

01Problem & Solution

An Unprotected Membrane Wears Out Early

Problem

Chlorine and Sediment Reach the Membrane

Reverse osmosis membranes have a polyamide structure and are sensitive to chlorine. Chlorine in mains water damages the membrane permanently, while coarse sediment and silt block its surface, cutting output and bringing the cost of replacement forward.

Solution

A Layout with Carbon Pre-Treatment

The Factory Water Treatment System places an activated carbon unit ahead of the reverse osmosis stage. Chlorine, odour and coarse sediment are held back before they reach the membrane, so the membrane lasts longer and production efficiency stays steady.

02Key Features

Two Stages, Industrial Construction

The Factory Water Treatment System brings two complementary units together in a single installation.

10 Tonnes a Day

Producing 500 litres an hour, it meets the daily water requirement of a facility consistently.

Activated Carbon Pre-Treatment

By holding back chlorine, odour and coarse sediment, it protects the membrane and raises treatment efficiency.

ULP21 4040 Membranes

The 4040 membranes give high output at low pressure and separate out dissolved contaminants.

Automatic Backwash

The carbon stage washes itself at regular intervals and needs no constant intervention.

A Durable Steel Frame

A powder-coated carbon steel frame gives a solid build and long life in industrial use.

PPRC Pipework

PPRC pipework on the low- and high-pressure lines gives a safe, durable installation.

03Technical Specifications

System Details

Feature Value What it does
System Type Carbon + Reverse Osmosis The main problem the system solves. Pick the wrong type and the water does not improve.
Daily Capacity 10 Tonnes How much water it can treat in a day. It should be at least 1.5 times your daily use.
Hourly Capacity 500 Litres How much water passes through per unit of time. A low flow rate drops the pressure when more than one tap is open.
Stage 1 Activated Carbon Unit The first stage. It holds back coarse sediment and extends the life of the filters behind it.
Stage 2 Reverse Osmosis Unit The second stage. It takes out chlorine, taste and odour.
Membrane ULP21 4040 The reverse osmosis membrane. This is the part that decides how pure the water is.
Membrane Housing HFT
Frame Powder-Coated Carbon Steel
Piping PPRC
Feed Water TDS 0 – 2,000 ppm The inlet water quality the unit can cope with. Above this limit, pre-treatment is needed.
Feed Water Pressure 2 – 5 bar
Treated Water Tank Supplied by the Customer

04Applications

Where Is It Used?

The Factory Water Treatment System suits production and service facilities whose water use is in the region of 10 tonnes a day.

  • Production Plants
  • Workshops
  • Textile Applications
  • Hotels & Restaurants
  • Laboratories
  • Process Water Lines
  • Chlorinated Mains Water
  • Drinking & Utility Water

05How It Works

How Does the Factory Water Treatment System Work?

  1. It Enters the Carbon Stage

Raw water is directed from the main line to the activated carbon unit and distributed across the carbon bed.

  2. Chlorine and Sediment Are Held Back

The carbon bed protects the membrane by adsorbing chlorine, odour, organic matter and coarse sediment.

  3. High-Pressure Pump

The water leaving pre-treatment is delivered onto the surface of the 4040 membranes by the high-pressure pump.

  4. Separation at the Membrane

Only water molecules pass through the membrane; dissolved salts and fine contaminants are held back.

  5. The Permeate Goes to the Tank

The treated water, produced at 500 litres an hour, is collected in the customer’s own tank, and the concentrate is discharged to drain.

06Making the Right Choice

Is 10 Tonnes Right for Your Site?

When choosing the Factory Water Treatment System, the daily requirement, the tank volume and the raw water analysis should be assessed.

Daily Water Requirement

It is for sites in the 10 tonne a day range; a higher requirement calls for the larger-capacity models.

Tank Volume

The treated water tank is supplied by the customer; its volume should be planned around the output of 500 litres an hour.

Raw Water Analysis

The TDS, hardness, iron and silica figures directly determine the output and the pre-treatment design.

Hardness and Installation

Where hardness is high, softening should be added; the placement and drainage of the two units should be planned in advance.

07Maintenance and Use

Notes That Keep It Performing

The Factory Water Treatment System runs steadily when each stage gets its own maintenance.

  • Activated carbon becomes saturated over time; renewing it, generally once a year, maintains treatment performance.
  • RO membranes are replaced every 1.5-2 years depending on conditions; if pre-treatment is neglected, this interval shortens.
  • The pump pressure and membrane performance should be monitored, and a membrane clean carried out when output falls.
  • The treated water tank should be kept hygienic, and the feed water figures monitored to make sure they stay within limits.

08Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

What does the Factory Water Treatment System do?
It combines activated carbon pre-treatment with a reverse osmosis unit. The carbon stage protects the membrane by holding back chlorine, odour and sediment, while reverse osmosis separates up to 99% of dissolved salts and contaminants and produces 500 litres of quality water an hour, 10 tonnes a day.
Is the treated water tank included?
No. The treated water tank is not included with the system and is supplied by the customer. The tank volume should be planned around the site’s consumption profile and the production flow of 500 litres an hour.
Why is carbon pre-treatment needed?
Reverse osmosis membranes have a polyamide structure and are sensitive to chlorine. By holding back chlorine, the carbon stage protects the membrane from permanent damage; because it also holds back coarse sediment, it stops the membrane surface from blocking early.
Does it remove limescale and hardness?
Activated carbon does not reduce hardness. Reverse osmosis separates out dissolved substances, hardness included, but with high-hardness water, adding softening as a third stage is recommended to protect the membrane.
What are the feed water conditions?
The feed water should be within 0-2,000 ppm TDS, 2-5 bar pressure and pH 6-8. These figures show that the layout is designed for mains and brackish water applications; it is not suitable for seawater.

Installation and commissioning

Installation is a service · plumbing is the customer’s responsibility

The system is delivered ready to install; it only needs to be connected to the inlet and outlet lines. If valve setup is required, we provide free support over a video call. Installation and commissioning fall under our service work and are subject to a service fee. Plumbing labour and any pipes, valves and fittings are not included in the price; these items are the customer’s responsibility.
