The Highest-Capacity Depth Filtration with the 40 inch 5 Micron String Wound Filter

The 40 inch 5 Micron String Wound Filter is a depth-type sediment filter made from polypropylene yarn wound in graded layers around a porous core. As the longest of the standard cartridge sizes, it captures sand, rust, silt and limescale particles throughout its depth on high-flow industrial lines.

01Problem & Solution

On a Large Line, Capacity Decides Everything

Problem

Frequent Downtime, Rising Cost

On high-flow process lines, short cartridges clog before long. Frequent replacement halts production, the pressure differential grows, and the sediment load starts passing to the stages that follow.

Solution

The Longest Body, the Least Downtime

The 40 inch 5 Micron String Wound Filter combines its long body with a graded winding structure. Particles are captured across different layers, capacity rises and the replacement interval lengthens markedly.

02Key Features

Wound, High-Capacity, Durable

The 40 inch 5 Micron String Wound Filter is the first filtration stage of an industrial line.

5 Micron Filtration

Holds back sand, rust, silt and limescale particles larger than 5 micron.

Graded Winding Structure

Yarn winding that tightens from outside in delivers depth filtration and high dirt-holding capacity.

The Highest Holding Capacity

A 40 inch body can accumulate far more sediment than shorter cartridges.

Supported Core

The core structure helps the cartridge hold its shape under pressure.

Multi-Cartridge Compatibility

Capacity can be increased by running several cartridges together in industrial housings.

Wide Application Range

Widely used for the pre-filtration of process liquids as well as water.

04Applications

Where Is It Used?

The 40 inch 5 Micron String Wound Filter is used on industrial-scale filtration lines.

  • Industrial Treatment Systems
  • Production & Process Lines
  • Food & Beverage Industry
  • Chemical & Paint Industry
  • Well & Borehole Water Lines
  • Greenhouse & Irrigation Lines
  • Multi-Cartridge Systems
  • Service & Maintenance Teams

05How It Works

How Does the 40 inch 5 Micron String Wound Filter Work?

  1. Fitted into the Housing

The cartridge is fitted into the single or multi-cartridge 40 inch housing at the first stage of the line.

  2. Water Enters the Wound Layers

Water from the line travels inwards through the loose outer winding on the cartridge’s surface.

  3. Captured in Depth

Coarse particles are held in the outer layers, fine particles in the progressively tighter inner windings.

  4. Clear Water Continues On

Freed of sediment, the water is collected in the core cavity and passed to the next stage.

  5. The Pressure Differential Is Watched

When the inlet–outlet pressure differential rises, the cartridge is saturated; that is when it is replaced.

06Making the Right Choice

40 inch or 30 inch?

When choosing the 40 inch 5 Micron String Wound Filter, consider the housing size, the flow rate and the number of cartridges together.

Housing Size

This cartridge is for 40 inch housings; shorter housings take 10, 20 or 30 inch cartridges.

Line Flow Rate

As flow rises, a longer cartridge or several cartridges together become necessary.

Construction Choice

String wound is strong at depth filtration; spun filters are generally more economical.

End Type

The cartridge end configuration (flat or with adaptor) must match how the housing seats it.

07Maintenance and Use

Replacement Notes

With regular monitoring, the 40 inch 5 Micron String Wound Filter keeps the line running without interruption.

  • This cartridge is not washable; sediment penetrates the depth of the winding and cannot be flushed out.
  • Watch the inlet–outlet pressure differential regularly; a marked rise signals that replacement is due.
  • In multi-cartridge housings all cartridges should be replaced together; mixing old and new lowers efficiency.
  • Before replacement, shut off the line, release the pressure in the housing and check the condition of the gasket.

08Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

What does the 40 inch 5 Micron String Wound Filter do?
It holds back suspended solids such as sand, rust, silt and limescale particles. Its industrial-length body and wound structure provide depth filtration on high-flow lines.
How does it differ from a 30 inch cartridge?
The difference is length. A 40 inch cartridge offers a larger winding surface and greater sediment-holding capacity, which means a longer replacement interval on high-flow lines.
How does it differ from a spun filter?
The difference is in how they are made. A spun filter is formed from melt-blown fibre in a single piece; a string wound filter is made from polypropylene yarn wound around a core. String wound is strong at depth filtration.
Can it be used in multi-cartridge housings?
Yes. In industrial housings several cartridges work together to raise system capacity. The number of cartridges is set by the flow requirement of the line.
When should it be replaced?
A rise in the inlet–outlet pressure differential and a fall in flow are the most reliable indicators. The interval depends on how dirty the water is and on the flow rate of the line, and it shortens where the sediment load is heavy.

Installation and commissioning

Installation is a service · plumbing is the customer’s responsibility

The system is delivered ready to install; it only needs to be connected to the inlet and outlet lines. If valve setup is required, we provide free support over a video call. Installation and commissioning fall under our service work and are subject to a service fee. Plumbing labour and any pipes, valves and fittings are not included in the price; these items are the customer’s responsibility.

Warranty

Consumable

This product is classed as a consumable or spare part; because its life depends on use, it is not covered by warranty. Faulty or incorrectly shipped items are replaced — just get in touch with us.

Withdrawal and returns

Distance sales agreement

The right of withdrawal and the return terms are set out in detail in the distance sales agreement. Systems that have been installed and commissioned, and made-to-order products, are outside its scope.

Cancellation and return terms

How can we help?

Two different requests, two different forms.

The two forms ask different things: if we are building a new system we ask about your water and capacity; if your existing system needs service we ask for its brand and a photo.
