Chlorine-Free Water Throughout the House with the 10 inch Big Blue CTO Carbon Filter

The 10 inch Big Blue CTO Carbon Filter is a large-diameter treatment cartridge made by compressing activated carbon into a solid block. It adsorbs chlorine, odour, off-taste and organic compounds from the water, and works on high-flow lines such as a building inlet without restricting the flow significantly.

01Problem & Solution

Chlorine Is Noticeable Throughout the House

Problem

Sharp Odour, a Cartridge That Cannot Keep Up

Chlorine in mains water leaves a sharp smell in the shower and the kitchen. Because all the water for the property passes through a single point at the building inlet, narrow carbon cartridges cannot keep up with that flow and saturate quickly.

Solution

Wide Body, Long Contact

Thanks to its large diameter, the 10 inch Big Blue CTO Carbon Filter offers far more carbon volume. Water stays inside the block longer, so chlorine and odour reduction stays effective even at high flow.

02Key Features

Large Diameter, Dense Carbon

The 10 inch Big Blue CTO Carbon Filter is the chlorine and odour stage of a whole-house line.

Chlorine Reduction

By adsorbing free chlorine from mains water, it improves the taste and smell of the water.

Big Blue Wide Body

The large diameter provides far greater carbon volume than standard cartridges.

Compressed Block Structure

The dense block body gives longer contact time and steadier flow than granular carbon.

Organic Compound Adsorption

Helps capture the organic compounds that give water colour, taste and odour.

Covers the Whole House

Working on the main line, it reduces chlorine smell in the bathroom, the kitchen and at every point of use.

Big Blue Housing Compatibility

Compatible with common 10 inch Big Blue filter housings; it can be used regardless of brand.

04Applications

Where Is It Used?

The 10 inch Big Blue CTO Carbon Filter is used on high-flow main lines.

  • Building & Apartment Inlets
  • Villas & Detached Houses
  • Flat Main Lines
  • Well & Borehole Water Lines
  • Hotels & Housing Estates
  • Business & Workshop Lines
  • RO System Pre-Treatment
  • Service & Installation Engineers

05How It Works

How Does the 10 inch Big Blue CTO Carbon Filter Work?

  1. It Comes After the Sediment Stage

Water that has passed the sediment filter on the main line reaches the carbon free of coarse particles.

  2. It Passes Through the Wide Block Body

Water travels slowly from the outer surface of the large-diameter carbon block towards the centre.

  3. Adsorption Takes Place

Chlorine, odour and organic molecules attach to the porous carbon surface and leave the water.

  4. Clear Water Reaches the House

Free of chlorine, the water is delivered to the plumbing and reaches any further treatment stages protected.

  5. Replaced When Saturated

When the carbon surface is saturated, chlorine reduction weakens and a change in taste and smell becomes noticeable.

06Making the Right Choice

Big Blue or Standard Cartridge?

When choosing the 10 inch Big Blue CTO Carbon Filter, consider the housing type, the flow rate and the chlorine level.

Housing Type

This cartridge fits Big Blue housings only; it cannot be used in standard slim housings.

Flow Requirement

Big Blue sizing is preferred at high-flow points such as a whole-house or building inlet.

Construction Choice

CTO carbon block gives longer contact time; GAC granular carbon restricts flow less.

Stage Layout

A sediment filter must sit ahead of it, and a softening stage for hardness must be planned separately.

07Maintenance and Use

Replacement Notes

Replaced on time, the 10 inch Big Blue CTO Carbon Filter keeps protecting the whole line.

  • This cartridge is not washable; once the carbon surface is saturated it must be replaced with a new one.
  • When the smell of chlorine becomes noticeable at the taps again, it is time to replace it.
  • Before replacement, close the main valve, release the pressure in the housing and check the large O-ring.
  • After fitting the new cartridge, run the line for a few minutes to rinse out carbon dust.

08Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

What does the 10 inch Big Blue CTO Carbon Filter do?
It removes chlorine, odour, off-taste and organic compounds from the water by adsorption. Its wide body lets it work effectively on high-flow lines such as a building inlet while protecting the treatment stages.
How does it differ from a standard 10 inch cartridge?
The difference is diameter. A Big Blue cartridge has a much wider body, which means more carbon volume, longer contact time and a longer replacement interval.
Will it fit a standard housing?
No. Big Blue cartridges fit Big Blue housings only. If you have a standard slim housing, choose a cartridge made for that diameter.
How does it differ from a GAC carbon filter?
GAC consists of a granular carbon fill; CTO is a pressed block. The block structure gives longer contact time and less carbon carry-over, while the granular structure restricts flow less.
Does it remove limescale and sediment?
No. Carbon works by adsorption; it does not reduce hardness and does not remove dissolved salts. A sediment filter is needed for sand and silt, and a softening stage for hardness.

Installation and commissioning

Installation is a service · plumbing is the customer’s responsibility

The system is delivered ready to install; it only needs to be connected to the inlet and outlet lines. If valve setup is required, we provide free support over a video call. Installation and commissioning fall under our service work and are subject to a service fee. Plumbing labour and any pipes, valves and fittings are not included in the price; these items are the customer’s responsibility.

Warranty

Consumable

This product is classed as a consumable or spare part; because its life depends on use, it is not covered by warranty. Faulty or incorrectly shipped items are replaced — just get in touch with us.

Withdrawal and returns

Distance sales agreement

The right of withdrawal and the return terms are set out in detail in the distance sales agreement. Systems that have been installed and commissioned, and made-to-order products, are outside its scope.

Cancellation and return terms

How can we help?

Two different requests, two different forms.

The two forms ask different things: if we are building a new system we ask about your water and capacity; if your existing system needs service we ask for its brand and a photo.
