Regeneration Salt · Resin Consumable

Water Softener Salt

Water Softener Salt is the salt used in the regeneration that keeps the cationic resin in a softener able to hold hardness minerals; added to the unit’s brine tank, the brine works on the resin to strip out the calcium and magnesium it has collected and keep the softening performance going.

01Problem & Solution

Without Salt, the Resin Tires

Problem

Saturated Resin Cannot Hold Hardness

As the resin in a softener captures calcium and magnesium it eventually reaches saturation. Left unrenewed, it loses its ability to hold hardness and the water turns hard again.

Solution

Renewal with Brine

Water Softener Salt dissolves in the brine tank and regenerates the resin. The brine strips the hardness minerals out of the resin and leaves it able to hold hardness again.

02Key Features

Clean Dissolution, Uninterrupted Softening

Water Softener Salt is used to keep a softener’s regeneration running smoothly and efficiently.

It Renews the Resin

Regenerating saturated cationic resin restores its softening capacity.

Clean Dissolution

High-purity salt dissolves without leaving sediment or sludge in the brine tank, keeping the system clean.

It Protects the Valve

Leaving no residue helps protect the control valve’s injector and passages from blockage.

It Reduces Bridging

Tablets that dissolve evenly reduce the risk of salt bridging in the brine tank.

Domestic and Industrial

It can be used with every softener, from domestic cabinet units to industrial systems.

It Extends Resin Life

A good regeneration preserves the resin’s capacity and adds to the life of the softener.

04Applications

Where Is It Used?

Water Softener Salt is used in every home, business and plant with a resin water softener.

  • Cabinet Softeners
  • Villas & Detached Houses
  • Residential Complexes & Apartment Blocks
  • Hotels & Hospitals
  • Factories & Plants
  • Laundries
  • Plant Room Systems
  • Industrial Softening

05How It Works

How Does Water Softener Salt Work?

  1. Added to the Brine Tank

Water Softener Salt is filled into the brine tank beside the unit, to the level specified.

  2. Brine Forms

Water drawn into the tank dissolves the salt and a concentrated brine is prepared.

  3. The Valve Starts Regeneration

The unit’s valve starts regeneration automatically, on time or on flow, and draws the brine.

  4. The Resin Is Cleaned

The brine passes through the resin; the calcium and magnesium it has collected are stripped out and flushed to drain.

  5. Return to Service

The renewed resin is ready to soften again, and the cycle repeats as the salt is used up.

06Making the Right Choice

What Determines the Right Salt

When choosing Water Softener Salt, purity, the form of the salt and unit compatibility must be assessed correctly.

Purity

High-purity salt leaves no sludge or slime at the bottom of the tank, which protects the valve.

The Form of the Salt

Tablets dissolve evenly and reduce bridging; coarse rock salt carries a risk of residue.

System Compatibility

On units with automatic multi-port valves, refined or tablet salt is recommended.

How Much You Use

The resin volume and the water hardness determine how often and how much salt is needed.

07Maintenance and Use

Notes That Keep It Performing

  • The salt level should be checked regularly; when the tank runs empty no regeneration takes place and the water turns hard.
  • If salt bridging forms in the tank it should be broken up, or the salt loses contact with the water.
  • If residue builds up at the bottom of the tank it should be cleaned out periodically; slime can block the valve.
  • Store the salt dry and closed, do not mix types, and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

08Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

What does Water Softener Salt do?
It renews (regenerates) the cationic resin in a water softener. When the resin is saturated, brine dissolved in the tank strips the calcium and magnesium out of it, so the resin can hold hardness again and the softening continues without a break.
Does this salt get into the drinking water?
No. The salt is used only to renew the resin and goes to drain after regeneration. Water Softener Salt does not treat water directly and does not add salt to it.
Can I use table salt or rock salt?
It is not recommended. Low-purity salt leaves sludge and slime at the bottom of the tank, can block the valve injector and leave the unit unable to regenerate. Use high-purity refined or tablet salt.
How often should I add salt?
Salt consumption varies with resin volume, water hardness and how heavily the unit is used. Check the level regularly and top the tank up before it falls below the level specified.
What is salt bridging?
It is when the salt hardens in the tank and loses contact with the water beneath it. The unit then cannot draw brine and cannot regenerate. Evenly dissolving tablet salt reduces the risk, and any bridge that forms should be broken up.

Installation and commissioning

Installation is a service · plumbing is the customer’s responsibility

The system is delivered ready to install; it only needs to be connected to the inlet and outlet lines. If valve setup is required, we provide free support over a video call. Installation and commissioning fall under our service work and are subject to a service fee. Plumbing labour and any pipes, valves and fittings are not included in the price; these items are the customer’s responsibility.

Warranty

How can we help?

Two different requests, two different forms.

The two forms ask different things: if we are building a new system we ask about your water and capacity; if your existing system needs service we ask for its brand and a photo.
