Water Hardness Test Kit

The Water Hardness Test Kit lets you measure the total hardness formed by the calcium and magnesium ions in your water in minutes, by the drop method; it is a practical way to establish the right resin quantity when choosing a water softener and to check whether the unit you already have is actually working.

01Problem & Solution

Judging Hardness by Eye

Problem

You Cannot Choose a Unit Without Knowing the Hardness

A softener bought without knowing the hardness of the water will either fall short or be larger than it needs to be. And when the resin in an existing unit is exhausted, you only notice once the scaling starts.

Solution

A Measurable, Clear Result

The Water Hardness Test Kit gives hardness as a number, from the count of drops added to the water up to the moment the colour changes. The choice of unit rests on measurement rather than guesswork.

02Key Features

Quick, Practical, Measurable

The Water Hardness Test Kit is designed to establish the hardness of water on the spot, without going to a laboratory.

Total Hardness Measurement

It gives a numerical figure for the sum of the calcium and magnesium ions that make water hard.

A Result in Minutes

It gives a result on the spot in a short time, with no need to send a sample to a laboratory.

It Guides the Choice of Unit

The measured hardness is used to establish the resin quantity and capacity of the softener.

Checking Your Unit

Measuring the outlet water of an existing softener confirms whether it is actually working.

Easy to Read by Colour

Pink or red means hard water; the test ends when it turns blue or green. Reading it is simple.

Portable

Its compact form makes it easy to take readings on site surveys and at different points.

04Applications

Where Is It Used?

The Water Hardness Test Kit is used wherever the hardness of the water needs to be known.

  • Choosing a Softener
  • Checking Unit Performance
  • Homes
  • Residential Complexes & Apartment Blocks
  • Factories
  • Boiler Rooms
  • Well Water Analysis
  • Site Surveys

05How It Works

How Is the Water Hardness Test Kit Used?

  1. Take a Sample

Rinse the test tube several times with the water to be measured and fill it to the marked line given in the instructions.

  2. Add the Indicator

Add the amount of indicator solution given in the instructions and swirl the tube gently.

  3. Read the Colour

If the water turns pink or red, hardness is present. If it stays blue, the water is soft and the test ends there.

  4. Add the Titration Solution

Add the titration solution drop by drop, counting each drop, until the colour turns blue (or green).

  5. Work Out the Result

The number of drops counted is converted to degrees of hardness using the conversion in the instructions, and used in choosing the unit.

06Making the Right Choice

Reading the Result Correctly

The result from the Water Hardness Test Kit is the basic data for the right unit and the right resin capacity.

What a Drop Represents

How many degrees of hardness a drop represents varies by kit; the instructions must be read.

Where You Measure

Measuring before the unit (raw water) and after it (outlet water) separately allows performance to be compared.

How Much You Use

The hardness figure is assessed together with daily water consumption to establish the resin volume.

Other Parameters

Well water may need a separate analysis for values such as iron, manganese and turbidity.

07Use and Storage

Notes for an Accurate Result

  • Rinse the test tube with the water to be measured before every reading; residue can carry over from the previous one.
  • Add the drops slowly and one at a time; dropping quickly can throw the count off.
  • Keep the solution bottles closed, cool and dry, and out of direct sunlight.
  • The solutions contain chemicals; keep them out of the reach of children and do not drink them.

08Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

What does the Water Hardness Test Kit do?
It measures the total hardness formed by the calcium and magnesium ions in the water, by the drop method. It is used to establish the resin quantity when choosing a softener and to check whether an existing unit is working.
Is it the same as a TDS meter?
No. A TDS meter shows the total dissolved solids in the water. The Water Hardness Test Kit measures specifically the calcium and magnesium ions that cause hardness. For choosing a softener, hardness is the measurement that matters.
How do I read the result?
You count the drops you add until the colour turns blue (or green). The kit’s instructions state how many degrees of hardness each drop represents, and you work the result out from that.
Can I tell whether my softener is working?
Yes. Test the unit’s outlet water: if the colour turns blue straight away, the water is being softened. If it stays pink or red, the resin may be exhausted, the salt run out or the regeneration setting adrift.
How many tests can I do?
The kit is not single-use; you can take many readings until the solutions run out. Storing them cool, dry and closed preserves the accuracy of the measurement.

Installation and commissioning

Installation is a service · plumbing is the customer’s responsibility

The system is delivered ready to install; it only needs to be connected to the inlet and outlet lines. If valve setup is required, we provide free support over a video call. Installation and commissioning fall under our service work and are subject to a service fee. Plumbing labour and any pipes, valves and fittings are not included in the price; these items are the customer’s responsibility.

Warranty

Consumable

This product is classed as a consumable or spare part; because its life depends on use, it is not covered by warranty. Faulty or incorrectly shipped items are replaced — just get in touch with us.

Withdrawal and returns

Distance sales agreement

The right of withdrawal and the return terms are set out in detail in the distance sales agreement. Systems that have been installed and commissioned, and made-to-order products, are outside its scope.

Cancellation and return terms

How can we help?

Two different requests, two different forms.

The two forms ask different things: if we are building a new system we ask about your water and capacity; if your existing system needs service we ask for its brand and a photo.
