Coal-Based Activated Carbon

Coal-Based Activated Carbon is an industrial filter medium whose bituminous coal raw material and wide pore structure adsorb and remove chlorine, off-taste and odour, colour and large organic molecules from water; in high-volume carbon vessels it gives economical, high-capacity treatment.

01Problem & Solution

The Load of Chlorine, Odour and Colour

Problem

Carbon Becomes Saturated Over Time

Activated carbon becomes saturated with the chlorine and organic matter it has captured and loses its adsorption capacity. A vessel running on saturated carbon no longer treats the water — and no longer protects the membrane downstream against chlorine either.

Solution

Renewing a High-Capacity Bed

The wide pore structure of Coal-Based Activated Carbon captures chlorine, colour and large organic molecules powerfully. Loaded in place of saturated carbon, it brings the vessel back to full efficiency.

02Key Features

Strong Adsorption, an Economical Answer

Coal-Based Activated Carbon is made for efficient, economical treatment in high-volume industrial carbon vessels.

Chlorine Reduction

Adsorbing the chlorine and chlorine compounds in the water protects the membrane and resin downstream from damage.

Colour Removal

Its wide pore structure is particularly effective at capturing the large organic molecules that colour water.

Taste and Odour Treatment

Adsorbing the compounds that cause off-taste and odour leaves the water clear and pleasant to drink.

Economical in Volume

Where an industrial vessel needs a large charge of media, it is the cost-effective answer.

Suitable for Backwashing

Its granular form allows backwashing in automatic carbon units, refreshing the bed.

System Protection

As a pre-treatment stage it extends the life of membranes, resin and softeners and improves plant efficiency.

04Applications

Where Is It Used?

Coal-Based Activated Carbon is used as the media charge in high-volume carbon vessels.

  • Industrial Carbon Units
  • Factories
  • Hotels & Housing Estates
  • Well Water Systems
  • RO Pre-Treatment
  • Coloured Water Problems
  • Process Water Treatment
  • Renewing a Carbon Bed

05How It Works

How Does Coal-Based Activated Carbon Work?

  1. Loading the Vessel

The granular carbon is loaded into the filter vessel in the specified quantity, forming the treatment bed.

  2. Water Passes Through the Bed

Raw water travels through the carbon bed, in prolonged contact with the porous surface.

  3. Adsorption

Chlorine, colouring matter, odour compounds and organic molecules are captured in the carbon’s pores.

  4. Backwash

In automatic carbon units the bed is backwashed periodically and the accumulated coarse contamination flushed to drain.

  5. Renewal at Saturation

Once the carbon has used up its adsorption capacity, backwashing is not enough; the bed is replaced with fresh carbon.

06Making the Right Choice

What Determines the Right Carbon

When choosing Coal-Based Activated Carbon, the type of contamination, the vessel volume and the application must be assessed correctly.

Type of Contamination

Where colour and large organic molecules dominate the load, wide-pored coal-based carbon has the advantage.

Vessel Volume

Vessel size and plant flow rate directly determine the quantity of carbon required.

The Application

In drinking-water applications where taste and odour matter most, coconut shell carbon is the one that stands out.

Budget and Volume

For high-volume industrial charges, coal-based carbon strikes an economical balance.

07Maintenance and Use

Notes That Keep It Performing

  • After loading fresh carbon the vessel should be backwashed thoroughly, as fine carbon dust can carry over into the water.
  • Once the adsorption capacity is used up, backwashing is not enough; the bed must be replaced with fresh carbon.
  • In systems left unused for a long period the carbon bed should be checked and washed if necessary.
  • Sacks of carbon should be stored dry and sealed; damp and dirt reduce their capacity.

08Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

What does Coal-Based Activated Carbon do?
It is the media charge for carbon filter vessels. It removes chlorine, off-taste and odour, colour and large organic molecules from the water by adsorbing them into its porous structure, and protects the membrane and resin downstream.
How does it differ from coconut shell carbon?
Coconut shell carbon is dominated by micropores and stands out in drinking-water applications where taste and odour matter most. Coal-based carbon, with its wider pore structure, is strong on removing colour and large organic molecules, and is the economical answer for high-volume industrial charges.
Does it remove hardness or salts?
No. Activated carbon removes chlorine, odour, colour and organic contaminants but not hardness (limescale) or dissolved salts. Hardness calls for water softening and salts for reverse osmosis.
When is it changed?
Carbon must be renewed when it loses its adsorption capacity, generally once a year. The exact interval depends on the chlorine and organic load of the incoming water and how heavily the system is used. Backwashing cleans carbon but does not renew saturated carbon.
How much carbon is needed?
The quantity required is determined by vessel size, the plant’s hourly flow rate and the contamination load of the water. Establishing the right charge means knowing the vessel size and the water analysis.

Products in stock ship free anywhere in Türkiye and arrive within 1–3 business days. Items not in stock are supplied to order — the lead time is confirmed to you when the order is approved.

Installation and commissioning

Installation is a service · plumbing is the customer’s responsibility

The system is delivered ready to install; it only needs to be connected to the inlet and outlet lines. If valve setup is required, we provide free support over a video call. Installation and commissioning fall under our service work and are subject to a service fee. Plumbing labour and any pipes, valves and fittings are not included in the price; these items are the customer’s responsibility.

Warranty

Consumable

This product is classed as a consumable or spare part; because its life depends on use, it is not covered by warranty. Faulty or incorrectly shipped items are replaced — just get in touch with us.

Withdrawal and returns

Distance sales agreement

The right of withdrawal and the return terms are set out in detail in the distance sales agreement. Systems that have been installed and commissioned, and made-to-order products, are outside its scope.

Cancellation and return terms

How can we help?

Two different requests, two different forms.

The two forms ask different things: if we are building a new system we ask about your water and capacity; if your existing system needs service we ask for its brand and a photo.
