Big Blue · Long Carbon Block

The Highest-Capacity Chlorine Reduction with the 20 inch Big Blue CTO Carbon Filter

The 20 inch Big Blue CTO Carbon Filter is a large-diameter, long-bodied treatment cartridge made by compressing activated carbon into a solid block. It adsorbs chlorine, odour, off-taste and organic compounds from the water and works with long contact time on high-flow main lines.

01Problem & Solution

On Busy Lines the Carbon Saturates Early

Problem

Frequent Replacement, Returning Odour

Water use on building and estate lines is high. Small carbon cartridges saturate quickly; the smell of chlorine returns before long, and frequent replacement adds to the operating burden.

Solution

Large Diameter, Long Body

With its large diameter and long body, the 20 inch Big Blue CTO Carbon Filter offers the highest carbon volume. Contact time lengthens, chlorine reduction stays effective and the replacement interval widens.

02Key Features

Maximum Carbon, Easy Flow

The 20 inch Big Blue CTO Carbon Filter is the highest-capacity carbon cartridge for main-line filtration.

Chlorine Reduction

By adsorbing free chlorine from mains water, it improves the taste and smell of the water.

Large Diameter & Long Body

The Big Blue diameter and the 20 inch length together give the highest carbon volume.

Long Contact Time

Because the water stays inside the block longer, removal efficiency holds up even at high flow.

Organic Compound Adsorption

Helps capture the organic compounds that give water colour, taste and odour.

Covers the Whole House

Working on the main line, it reduces chlorine smell in the bathroom, the kitchen and at every point of use.

Big Blue Housing Compatibility

Compatible with common 20 inch Big Blue filter housings; it can be used regardless of brand.

04Applications

Where Is It Used?

The 20 inch Big Blue CTO Carbon Filter is used on main lines with high water use.

  • Building & Estate Inlets
  • Villas & Detached Houses
  • Hotels & Accommodation
  • Well & Borehole Water Lines
  • Business & Workshop Lines
  • RO System Pre-Treatment
  • Annual Filter Replacement
  • Service & Installation Engineers

05How It Works

How Does the 20 inch Big Blue CTO Carbon Filter Work?

  1. It Comes After the Sediment Stage

Water that has passed the sediment filter on the main line reaches the carbon free of coarse particles.

  2. It Passes Through the Long Block Body

Water travels from the outer surface of the large-diameter, 20 inch long carbon block towards the centre.

  3. Adsorption Takes Place

Chlorine, odour and organic molecules attach to the porous carbon surface and leave the water.

  4. Clear Water Goes Out to the Line

Free of chlorine, the water is delivered to the plumbing and reaches any further treatment stages protected.

  5. Replaced When Saturated

When the carbon surface is saturated, chlorine reduction weakens and a change in taste and smell becomes noticeable.

06Making the Right Choice

20 inch or 10 inch Big Blue?

When choosing the 20 inch Big Blue CTO Carbon Filter, consider the housing size, the flow rate and the chlorine level.

Housing Size

This cartridge is for 20 inch Big Blue housings; a 10 inch Big Blue housing takes a shorter cartridge.

Flow Requirement

On building and estate lines with high water use, the 20 inch size gives longer contact time.

Chlorine Level

On mains supplies with a high chlorine level, a larger carbon volume extends the replacement interval.

Installation Space

A 20 inch Big Blue housing is longer; leave enough clearance beneath it for cartridge changes.

07Maintenance and Use

Replacement Notes

Replaced on time, the 20 inch Big Blue CTO Carbon Filter keeps protecting the whole line.

  • This cartridge is not washable; once the carbon surface is saturated it must be replaced with a new one.
  • When the smell of chlorine becomes noticeable at the taps again, it is time to replace it.
  • Before replacement, close the main valve, release the pressure in the housing and check the large O-ring.
  • After fitting the new cartridge, run the line for a few minutes to rinse out carbon dust.

08Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

What does the 20 inch Big Blue CTO Carbon Filter do?
It removes chlorine, odour, off-taste and organic compounds from the water by adsorption. Its large diameter and long body let it work effectively on high-flow main lines while protecting the treatment stages.
How does it differ from a 10 inch Big Blue cartridge?
The diameter is the same, the length differs. Being twice as long, the 20 inch cartridge contains more carbon; water stays inside the block longer and the replacement interval lengthens markedly.
Will it fit a standard 20 inch housing?
No. Big Blue cartridges fit Big Blue housings only. If you have a standard slim 20 inch housing, choose a cartridge made for that diameter.
How does it differ from a GAC carbon filter?
GAC consists of a granular carbon fill; CTO is a pressed block. The block structure gives longer contact time and less carbon carry-over, while the granular structure restricts flow less.
Does it remove limescale and sediment?
No. Carbon works by adsorption; it does not reduce hardness and does not remove dissolved salts. A sediment filter is needed for sand and silt, and a softening stage for hardness.

Installation and commissioning

Installation is a service · plumbing is the customer’s responsibility

The system is delivered ready to install; it only needs to be connected to the inlet and outlet lines. If valve setup is required, we provide free support over a video call. Installation and commissioning fall under our service work and are subject to a service fee. Plumbing labour and any pipes, valves and fittings are not included in the price; these items are the customer’s responsibility.

Warranty

How can we help?

Two different requests, two different forms.

The two forms ask different things: if we are building a new system we ask about your water and capacity; if your existing system needs service we ask for its brand and a photo.
