How Does the 10 inch Big Blue GAC Carbon Filter Work?
It Comes After the Sediment Stage
Water that has passed the sediment filter on the main line reaches the carbon free of coarse particles.
It Enters the Wide Granular Bed
Water passes between the granular activated carbon particles inside the large-diameter body.
Adsorption Takes Place
Chlorine, odour and organic molecules attach to the porous carbon surface and leave the water.
Clear Water Reaches the House
Free of chlorine, the water is delivered to the plumbing and reaches any further treatment stages protected.
Replaced When Saturated
When the carbon surface is saturated, chlorine reduction weakens and a change in taste and smell becomes noticeable.

GAC or CTO?
When choosing the 10 inch Big Blue GAC Carbon Filter, consider the housing type, the flow rate and the stage layout.
Housing Type
This cartridge fits Big Blue housings only; it cannot be used in standard slim housings.
Construction Choice
The GAC granular structure restricts flow less; CTO carbon block gives longer contact time.
Flow Requirement
Big Blue sizing is preferred at high-flow points such as a whole-house or building inlet.
Stage Layout
A sediment filter must sit ahead of it, and a softening stage for hardness must be planned separately.
07Maintenance and Use
Replacement Notes
Replaced on time, the 10 inch Big Blue GAC Carbon Filter keeps protecting the whole line.
- This cartridge is not washable; once the carbon surface is saturated it must be replaced with a new one.
- When the smell of chlorine becomes noticeable at the taps again, it is time to replace it.
- Before replacement, close the main valve, release the pressure in the housing and check the large O-ring.
- After fitting the new cartridge, run the line for a few minutes to rinse out carbon dust.

What does the 10 inch Big Blue GAC Carbon Filter do?
It removes chlorine, odour, off-taste and organic compounds from the water by adsorption. The high volume of granular carbon in its wide body lets it work effectively on high-flow lines such as a building inlet.
How does it differ from a standard 10 inch cartridge?
The difference is diameter. A Big Blue cartridge has a much wider body, which means more carbon volume, higher flow capacity and a longer replacement interval.
How does it differ from CTO carbon block?
CTO is a pressed block; GAC is a granular fill. The block structure gives longer contact time, the granular structure restricts flow less. On high-flow lines the two are often used in sequence.
Will it fit a standard housing?
No. Big Blue cartridges fit Big Blue housings only. If you have a standard slim housing, choose a cartridge made for that diameter.
Does it remove limescale and sediment?
No. Carbon works by adsorption; it does not reduce hardness and does not remove dissolved salts. A sediment filter is needed for sand and silt, and a softening stage for hardness.
