TechFlow · 8040 Low-Pressure Membrane

High-Capacity Industrial Treatment with the TechFlow 8040 LP-400 Membrane

The TechFlow 8040 LP-400 Membrane is an 8 inch spiral-wound RO element in thin-film composite polyamide — the treating heart of a reverse osmosis system. Delivering high output at low pressure, it separates up to 99% of the dissolved salts and contaminants in the water.

Size
8040 (8"×40")
Active Area
400 ft² (37 m²)
Type
Low Pressure (LP)

01Problem & Solution

When a Membrane’s Life Ends, Output Falls

Problem

Poor Water Quality and High Energy

A membrane that has fouled or reached the end of its life loses salt rejection, produces less permeate and demands more pressure, which pushes the energy cost up.

Solution

High Output at Low Pressure

The TechFlow 8040 LP-400 Membrane cuts energy consumption by giving high permeate flow at low pressure. Separating up to 99% of dissolved salts and contaminants, it produces water of high purity.

02Key Features

Efficient, High-Capacity, Economical

The TechFlow 8040 LP-400 Membrane is an element that balances performance and cost for industrial RO systems.

Low-Pressure Efficiency

The LP (Low Pressure) construction gives high permeate flow at a low working pressure and saves energy.

400 ft² of Active Area

Roughly 37 m² of effective membrane area supports high-capacity production.

High Salt Rejection

It separates up to 99% of dissolved salts, heavy metals and contaminants from the water.

TFC Polyamide Construction

A thin-film composite polyamide spiral-wound design gives steady, dependable treatment.

Standard 8040 Compatibility

It fits standard 8 inch membrane vessels and can be retrofitted into existing systems.

A Wide Range of Uses

It is used in municipal drinking water, boiler feed water, food and pharmaceutical production and demineralisation lines.

03Technical Specifications

Membrane Specifications

Feature Value What it does
Size 8040 (8" × 40") The physical size. If a spare does not match this, it will not go into the housing.
Membrane Type TFC Polyamide The structure of the membrane. Chlorine burns it, so a carbon filter in front is essential.
Active Area 400 ft² (~37 m²)
Test Flow ~12,000 gpd (45.4 m³/day) How much water passes through per unit of time. A low flow rate drops the pressure when more than one tap is open.
Salt Rejection Up to 99% How much of the dissolved salt is rejected. A higher figure means purer water.
Feed Water < 1500 ppm (Brackish) The inlet water quality the unit can cope with. Above this limit, pre-treatment is needed.

04Applications

Where Is It Used?

The TechFlow 8040 LP-400 Membrane is used in industrial RO systems treating water of low to medium salinity.

  • Industrial RO Systems
  • Municipal Drinking Water
  • Boiler Feed Water
  • Food & Beverage Production
  • Pharmaceutical Manufacturing
  • Water Demineralisation
  • Membrane Change / Renewal
  • Process Water Lines

05How It Works

How Does the TechFlow 8040 LP-400 Membrane Work?

  1. It Is Loaded into the Vessel

The membrane is loaded into the 8 inch vessel and connected to the RO system’s pressure line.

  2. Water Is Fed Under Pressure

Water that has passed pre-treatment is delivered to the membrane surface by the high-pressure pump, at low pressure.

  3. It Filters Through the Semi-Permeable Film

Only water molecules pass through the polyamide film; dissolved salts, heavy metals and contaminants are held back.

  4. Permeate and Concentrate Separate

The treated water (permeate) is collected, and the salt-concentrated reject washes the membrane surface on its way to drain.

  5. High-Purity Water

Low-conductivity, high-purity water is delivered to the system outlet and goes into use.

06Making the Right Choice

What Decides the Right Membrane

When choosing the TechFlow 8040 LP-400 Membrane, the feed water, the size and system compatibility must be assessed correctly.

Feed Water TDS

An LP membrane is ideal for low to medium salinity below 1500 ppm; seawater calls for an SWRO membrane.

Size & Vessel Fit

The 8040 size fits standard 8 inch vessels, and your system’s vessel size should be confirmed.

Capacity Requirement

The daily output required determines how many membranes are used and the system design.

Rejection vs Energy

If the highest salt rejection is the priority, choose a premium high-rejection membrane; if energy and flow are, choose LP.

07Maintenance and Use

Notes That Extend Its Life

  • The membrane is sensitive to chlorine and oxidants; the chlorine in the feed water must be removed in pre-treatment, by activated carbon or similar.
  • When the pressure drop rises, permeate falls or salt rejection is lost, a chemical clean (CIP) should be carried out.
  • To hold fouling off, the pre-treatment stages — sediment and hardness removal — must be working properly.
  • The membrane must not be left dry; during long shutdowns it should be stored in the preservative solution the manufacturer recommends.

08Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

What does the TechFlow 8040 LP-400 Membrane do?
It is the membrane element that treats water at the molecular level in a reverse osmosis system. It gives high permeate flow at low pressure and separates up to 99% of dissolved salts and contaminants.
What is the advantage of LP (low pressure)?
Producing a high flow at a low working pressure means the pump uses less energy. That brings running costs down, particularly on water of low to medium salinity below 1500 ppm.
Can it be used on seawater?
No. This membrane is designed for sources of low to medium salinity (brackish water). Seawater calls for high-pressure seawater (SWRO) membranes.
How does it differ from the Toray TM720D-400?
Both are 8040 elements with 400 ft² of area. The TechFlow LP-400 balances performance and cost through low pressure and high flow; the Toray TM720D-400 stands out for higher salt rejection (99.8%) and premium materials.
What shortens its life?
The greatest risk is chlorine and oxidants; if the chlorine in the feed water is not removed, the membrane is irreversibly damaged. Inadequate pre-treatment and cleaning left too late also shorten its life.

Delivery

Across Türkiye · 1–3 business days

Products in stock ship free anywhere in Türkiye and arrive within 1–3 business days. Items not in stock are supplied to order — the lead time is confirmed to you when the order is approved.

Installation and commissioning

Installation is a service · plumbing is the customer’s responsibility

The system is delivered ready to install; it only needs to be connected to the inlet and outlet lines. If valve setup is required, we provide free support over a video call. Installation and commissioning fall under our service work and are subject to a service fee. Plumbing labour and any pipes, valves and fittings are not included in the price; these items are the customer’s responsibility.

Warranty

2 years · manufacturer

The system is covered by a 2-year manufacturer warranty. During the warranty period, labour and parts are free for faults arising from manufacture or installation. Consumables such as filters, membranes and resin are outside warranty cover — they are replaced when their service life ends; they do not fail.

Withdrawal and returns

Distance sales agreement

The right of withdrawal and the return terms are set out in detail in the distance sales agreement. Systems that have been installed and commissioned, and made-to-order products, are outside its scope.

Cancellation and return terms

How can we help?

Two different requests, two different forms.

The two forms ask different things: if we are building a new system we ask about your water and capacity; if your existing system needs service we ask for its brand and a photo.
