String Wound · Long Body
The 20 inch 5 Micron String Wound Filter is a depth-type sediment filter made from polypropylene yarn wound in graded layers around a porous core. Its long body captures sand, rust, silt and limescale particles throughout its depth and gives long service on high-flow lines.
01Problem & Solution
Problem
On lines with high water use, short cartridges fill in no time. Dirt building up at the surface weakens the flow, pressure falls, and frequent replacement drives up the cost.
Solution
The 20 inch 5 Micron String Wound Filter combines its long body with a graded winding structure. Particles are captured across different layers, capacity rises and the replacement interval lengthens.
02Key Features
The 20 inch 5 Micron String Wound Filter is a dependable pre-filter for heavily used lines.
Holds back sand, rust, silt and limescale particles larger than 5 micron.
Yarn winding that tightens from outside in delivers depth filtration and high dirt-holding capacity.
A 20 inch body can accumulate far more sediment than a 10 inch cartridge.
The core structure helps the cartridge hold its shape under pressure.
Made from polypropylene suitable for drinking water filtration; it leaves no taste or odour.
Compatible with common 20″ filter housings; it can be used regardless of brand.
03Technical Specifications
| Feature | Value | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Product Type | String Wound Sediment Filter | Which family the unit belongs to. Products in the same family can be used in place of one another. |
| Size | 20 inch (20") | The physical size. If a spare does not match this, it will not go into the housing. |
| Micron Rating | 5 Micron | The smallest particle the filter holds back. The lower the figure, the finer the sediment it catches. |
| Material | Polypropylene Yarn | What it is made of. A metal body is preferred on a pressurised line, plastic on a chemical one. |
| Filtration Type | Depth Filtration | How the filter holds material back. |
| Compatibility | Standard 20" Filter Housings | Which units and housings it works with. Compare it with yours before ordering. |
04Applications
The 20 inch 5 Micron String Wound Filter is used for pre-filtration on lines with high water use.
05How It Works
The cartridge is fitted into the standard 20 inch housing at the first stage of the line.
Water from the line travels inwards through the loose outer winding on the cartridge’s surface.
Coarse particles are held in the outer layers, fine particles in the progressively tighter inner windings.
Freed of sediment, the water is collected in the core cavity and passed to the next stage.
When the cartridge fills with sediment the flow weakens; at that point it should be replaced with a new one.
06Making the Right Choice
When choosing the 20 inch 5 Micron String Wound Filter, consider the housing size, the flow rate and the type of application.
This cartridge is for standard 20 inch housings; 10 inch and Big Blue housings take different sizes.
On lines with high consumption, the 20 inch size gives longer life and less pressure loss.
String wound is strong at depth filtration; spun filters are generally more economical.
5 micron is a balanced choice for a first stage; 1 micron filters finer but fills more quickly.
07Maintenance and Use
Replaced on time, the 20 inch 5 Micron String Wound Filter protects the whole line.
