How Does the Jumbo 20 inch 5 Micron String Filter Work?

Fitted into the Housing
The cartridge is fitted into the 20 inch jumbo filter housing at the head of the main line.

Water Enters the Wound Layers
Water from the main line moves inwards through the loosely wound outer layer on the cartridge’s wide surface.

Coarse particles are held in the outer layers, fine particles in the progressively tighter inner windings.

Freed of sediment, the water reaches the plumbing — and any further treatment stages — noticeably cleaner.

This cartridge is for 20 inch jumbo housings; a 10 inch jumbo housing takes the shorter cartridge.

Replacement Notes
Changed on time, the Jumbo 20 inch 5 Micron String Filter protects the whole line.
- This cartridge is not washable; sediment penetrates the depth of the winding and cannot be flushed out.
- Weakening flow at the taps and falling pressure are the first signs that the cartridge has filled.
- Before replacement, close the main valve, release the pressure in the housing and check the large O-ring.
- After fitting the new cartridge, run the line for a few minutes to rinse it and check for leaks.

What does the Jumbo 20 inch 5 Micron String Filter do?

How does it differ from the jumbo 10 inch cartridge?
The diameter is the same, the length differs. Being twice as long, the 20 inch cartridge holds more sediment; on the same water the replacement interval lengthens and pressure loss at high flow stays lower.
Will it fit a standard 20 inch housing?
No. Jumbo cartridges fit wide-diameter jumbo housings only. If you have a standard slim 20 inch housing, choose a cartridge made for that diameter.
How does it differ from a spun filter?
The difference is in how they are made. A spun filter is formed from melt-blown fibre in a single piece; a string wound filter is made from polypropylene yarn wound around a core. String wound is strong at depth filtration.
How often should it be replaced?
Replacement frequency depends on how dirty the water is and on the flow rate of the line. Sediment-laden sources such as well water need more frequent replacement; weakening flow is the most reliable indicator.
