The Highest-Capacity Pre-Filtration: the Jumbo 20 inch 5 Micron String Filter

The Jumbo 20 inch 5 Micron String Filter is a wide-diameter, long-bodied depth sediment filter made from polypropylene yarn wound in graded layers over a porous core. It captures sand, rust, silt and scale particles through the depth of its body and markedly lengthens the change interval on high-flow main lines.

01Problem & Solution

Frequent Replacement on Busy Lines Is Wearing

Problem

A Small Cartridge Means Constant Maintenance

Sediment loads are high on building, complex and well water lines. Small cartridges fill quickly, frequent changes cost both labour and consumables, and a blocked filter drops the pressure.

Solution

Large Diameter, Long Body

The Jumbo 20 inch 5 Micron String Filter combines a jumbo diameter and a long body with graded winding. It holds far more sediment, the flow stays easy and the line runs without interruption.

02Key Features

Maximum Capacity, Easy Flow

The Jumbo 20 inch 5 Micron String Filter is the highest-capacity wound cartridge in main-line filtration.

5 Micron Filtration

Holds back sand, rust, silt and limescale particles larger than 5 micron.

Large Diameter & Long Body

A jumbo diameter and a 20 inch length together give the greatest sediment-holding capacity.

Graded Winding Structure

Yarn winding that tightens from outside in delivers depth filtration and high dirt-holding capacity.

Low Pressure Loss

Filters high-flow main lines without restricting the flow significantly.

Protects the Installation

By holding sediment at the inlet, it protects taps, mixers, boilers and appliances from particles.

Fits Jumbo Housings

Compatible with common 20 inch jumbo filter housings and usable regardless of brand.

04Applications

Where Is It Used?

The Jumbo 20 inch 5 Micron String Filter is used on main lines with a high sediment load.

  • Building & Estate Inlets
  • Villas & Detached Houses
  • Well & Borehole Water Lines
  • Hotels & Accommodation
  • Business & Workshop Lines
  • Irrigation & Greenhouse Lines
  • RO System Pre-Filtration
  • Service & Installation Engineers

05How It Works

How Does the Jumbo 20 inch 5 Micron String Filter Work?

  1. Fitted into the Housing

The cartridge is fitted into the 20 inch jumbo filter housing at the head of the main line.

  2. Water Enters the Wound Layers

Water from the main line moves inwards through the loosely wound outer layer on the cartridge’s wide surface.

  3. Captured in Depth

Coarse particles are held in the outer layers, fine particles in the progressively tighter inner windings.

  4. Clear Water Goes Out to the Line

Freed of sediment, the water reaches the plumbing — and any further treatment stages — noticeably cleaner.

  5. Replaced When Saturated

When the cartridge fills with sediment the flow weakens; at that point it should be replaced with a new one.

06Making the Right Choice

Jumbo 20 inch or Jumbo 10 inch?

When choosing the Jumbo 20 inch 5 Micron String Filter, housing size, flow rate and sediment load should be assessed.

Housing Size

This cartridge is for 20 inch jumbo housings; a 10 inch jumbo housing takes the shorter cartridge.

Flow Requirement

On building and estate lines with high water use, the 20 inch size gives easier flow.

Sediment Load

On sediment-laden sources such as well water, a larger cartridge markedly reduces how often it must be replaced.

Installation Space

A 20 inch jumbo housing is longer, so enough clearance must be left underneath for cartridge changes.

07Maintenance and Use

Replacement Notes

Changed on time, the Jumbo 20 inch 5 Micron String Filter protects the whole line.

  • This cartridge is not washable; sediment penetrates the depth of the winding and cannot be flushed out.
  • Weakening flow at the taps and falling pressure are the first signs that the cartridge has filled.
  • Before replacement, close the main valve, release the pressure in the housing and check the large O-ring.
  • After fitting the new cartridge, run the line for a few minutes to rinse it and check for leaks.

08Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

What does the Jumbo 20 inch 5 Micron String Filter do?
It captures suspended solids in the water such as sand, rust, silt and scale particles. Its wide diameter and long body give depth filtration on high-flow main lines.
How does it differ from the jumbo 10 inch cartridge?
The diameter is the same, the length differs. Being twice as long, the 20 inch cartridge holds more sediment; on the same water the replacement interval lengthens and pressure loss at high flow stays lower.
Will it fit a standard 20 inch housing?
No. Jumbo cartridges fit wide-diameter jumbo housings only. If you have a standard slim 20 inch housing, choose a cartridge made for that diameter.
How does it differ from a spun filter?
The difference is in how they are made. A spun filter is formed from melt-blown fibre in a single piece; a string wound filter is made from polypropylene yarn wound around a core. String wound is strong at depth filtration.
How often should it be replaced?
Replacement frequency depends on how dirty the water is and on the flow rate of the line. Sediment-laden sources such as well water need more frequent replacement; weakening flow is the most reliable indicator.

Installation and commissioning

Installation is a service · plumbing is the customer’s responsibility

The system is delivered ready to install; it only needs to be connected to the inlet and outlet lines. If valve setup is required, we provide free support over a video call. Installation and commissioning fall under our service work and are subject to a service fee. Plumbing labour and any pipes, valves and fittings are not included in the price; these items are the customer’s responsibility.

Warranty

Consumable

This product is classed as a consumable or spare part; because its life depends on use, it is not covered by warranty. Faulty or incorrectly shipped items are replaced — just get in touch with us.

Withdrawal and returns

Distance sales agreement

The right of withdrawal and the return terms are set out in detail in the distance sales agreement. Systems that have been installed and commissioned, and made-to-order products, are outside its scope.

How can we help?

Two different requests, two different forms.

The two forms ask different things: if we are building a new system we ask about your water and capacity; if your existing system needs service we ask for its brand and a photo.
