Coconut Shell · GAC Carbon Filter

Crystal-Clear Water and Pure Taste with Coconut Shell Activated Carbon

The Coconut Shell Activated Carbon filter is made from highly porous activated carbon produced from coconut shell; with a large surface area and strong adsorption it removes chlorine and unpleasant taste and odour effectively, leaving the water crystal clear and pure in taste.

Material
Coconut Carbon
Surface Area
1,000–1,500 m²/g
Replacement
Once a Year

01Problem & Solution

The Taste and Smell of Chlorine Spoil the Water

Problem

Ordinary Carbon Is Not Enough

Chlorine and organic matter in mains water give it an unpleasant taste and smell. Ordinary carbon with low porosity cannot capture them adequately; the water stays flat, and the chlorine damages the reverse osmosis membrane behind it and shortens its life.

Solution

Highly Porous Coconut Carbon

With its large surface area and strong adsorption, Coconut Shell Activated Carbon captures chlorine, odour and taste-spoiling substances exceptionally well. It leaves the water crystal clear and protects the membrane against chlorine, extending its life.

02Key Features

Natural, Powerful, Superior Treatment

Coconut Shell Activated Carbon is made from high-quality natural carbon to take taste and odour removal to its highest level.

Coconut Shell Carbon

A natural, sustainable, drinking-water grade carbon produced from coconut shell.

High Porosity

A micro-porous structure giving a surface area of 1,000–1,500 m²/g delivers strong, effective adsorption.

Superior Chlorine Removal

Its high iodine number gives greater removal of chlorine and chlorine compounds than standard CTO carbons.

Crystal Clarity & Pure Taste

By balancing taste and odour it delivers clear water that is pleasant to drink.

Membrane Protection

By capturing chlorine at the front it protects the reverse osmosis membrane and extends its life.

Broad Compatibility

A widely used solution that fits easily into systems with standard housings.

04Applications

Where Is It Used?

Coconut Shell Activated Carbon is used on any treatment line needing chlorine, taste and odour removal, from reverse osmosis systems to domestic filters.

  • Reverse Osmosis Systems
  • Domestic Filters
  • Office Systems
  • Well Water Systems
  • Drinking Water Treatment
  • Chlorine Reduction
  • Taste & Odour Correction
  • Protection Ahead of the Membrane

05How It Works

How Does Coconut Shell Activated Carbon Work?

  1. Into the Carbon Bed

The water is directed into the bed of coconut shell granular activated carbon inside the housing.

  2. Captured by Adsorption

As the water passes, chlorine, organic matter and odour compounds attach to the carbon’s large micro-porous surface.

  3. Taste and Odour Optimisation

Its high iodine number brings the taste and odour of the water to their best.

  4. Clear Water Out

Freed of chlorine and odour, crystal-clear water goes to the tap or to the next stage.

  5. The Membrane Is Protected

Because chlorine is captured at the front, the reverse osmosis membrane behind is not damaged and lasts longer.

06Making the Right Choice

What Decides the Right Filter

When choosing Coconut Shell Activated Carbon, assess the housing size and the stage position carefully.

Housing Size

Whether your system uses a 10 inch or 20 inch housing determines the right filter length.

Stage Position

In a reverse osmosis system it is usually placed as the pre-carbon (stage 2) or the post-carbon.

Feed Water Chlorine Load

The chlorine and organic load of the water affects how quickly the filter saturates and how often it needs replacing.

Replacement Plan

Planning its annual replacement into the same maintenance visit as the other filters makes it easier to manage.

07Maintenance and Replacement

Notes on Correct Replacement

  • Carbon saturates over time; depending on feed water quality its life ranges from 3 to 12 months, and on average we recommend replacing it once a year.
  • The taste or smell of chlorine returning to the water is the sign that the filter is saturated and replacement is due.
  • With a newly fitted filter, running it off for the first few minutes to flush the carbon dust is recommended for clear water.
  • The Coconut Shell Activated Carbon filter is for chlorine, odour and taste; softening and reverse osmosis are separately needed for hardness (limescale) and salinity.

08Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

What does Coconut Shell Activated Carbon do?
With its highly porous carbon produced from coconut shell it adsorbs chlorine, unpleasant taste and odour, and organic matter. It leaves the water crystal clear and pure in taste, and protects the reverse osmosis membrane against chlorine, extending its life.
How does it differ from coal-based carbon?
Coconut shell carbon has a higher proportion of micro-pores, a larger surface area (1,000–1,500 m²/g) and a higher iodine number. That makes its removal of chlorine, taste and odour more effective than coal-based and standard CTO carbons; it is also natural and of drinking-water grade.
How often should it be replaced?
Depending on feed water quality and how often it is used, its life ranges from 3 to 12 months; on average we recommend replacing it once a year. The taste of chlorine returning to the water is the sign that replacement is due.
Which systems is it used in?
In reverse osmosis systems, usually as the pre-carbon (stage 2) or the post-carbon, and also in domestic and office filters and well water systems. In a reverse osmosis system it is one of the filters that most affects membrane life.
Does it remove limescale and salt?
No. Activated carbon is for chlorine, odour, taste and organic matter; it does not reduce the water’s hardness (limescale) or salinity. A water softener is needed for limescale, and reverse osmosis for salinity and fine contaminants.

Installation and commissioning

Installation is a service · plumbing is the customer’s responsibility

The system is delivered ready to install; it only needs to be connected to the inlet and outlet lines. If valve setup is required, we provide free support over a video call. Installation and commissioning fall under our service work and are subject to a service fee. Plumbing labour and any pipes, valves and fittings are not included in the price; these items are the customer’s responsibility.

Warranty

Consumable

This product is classed as a consumable or spare part; because its life depends on use, it is not covered by warranty. Faulty or incorrectly shipped items are replaced — just get in touch with us.

Withdrawal and returns

Distance sales agreement

The right of withdrawal and the return terms are set out in detail in the distance sales agreement. Systems that have been installed and commissioned, and made-to-order products, are outside its scope.

How can we help?

Two different requests, two different forms.

The two forms ask different things: if we are building a new system we ask about your water and capacity; if your existing system needs service we ask for its brand and a photo.
